BOOK 3 IN THE IRON DRUID CHRONICLES

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is worse than a blowhard and a bully - he’s ruined countless lives and killed scores of innocents. After centuries, Viking vampire Leif Helgarson is ready to get his vengeance, and he’s asked his friend Atticus O’Sullivan, the last of the Druids, to help take down this Norse nightmare.

One survival strategy has worked for Atticus for more than two thousand years: stay away from the guy with the lightning bolts. But things are heating up in Atticus’s home base of Tempe, Arizona. There’s a vampire turf war brewing, and Russian demon hunters who call themselves the Hammers of God are running rampant. Despite multiple warnings and portents of dire consequences, Atticus and Leif journey to the Norse plain of Asgard, where they team up with a werewolf, a sorcerer, and an army of frost giants for an epic showdown against vicious Valkyries, angry gods, and the hammer-wielding Thunder Thug himself.

Amazing narration, less exciting storyline

Love, love, LOVE the narration for this series. The voices are perfect, even the female voices! I sometimes forget that it is narrated by one person!
The series as a whole is entertaining and very well written. But by the third book now, it seems like the plot line is a bit flat. To me, it's the same old stuff where the hero goes to save the day, and the ending is just the precursor for the next adventure. It truly is entertaining, but somewhat predictable, so I may not purchase the next book in the series any time soon. Still though, quality writing (or in this case, narration!!), characters are fun, and there are a lot of fun, nerdy themes and concepts that I absolutely adore.

Entertaining

If you could sum up Hammered in three words, what would they be?

Off the wall

What did you like best about this story?

Plenty of pace

Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?

The Russian Thunder God

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it was too long to do that so I heard it in parts on drives.

Good story and great narrator

What made the experience of listening to Hammered the most enjoyable?

I like how all gods exist and how some are nice and some are not. The entire premise is very silly yet at the same time fun to listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Atticus of course. I like how he is always overconfident, fails because he is fallible and yet figures out a way to come out alive.

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Luke does a great job pulling me into the story with his interpretation of what the story is about. One of my favorite narrators. Up there with Jim Dale.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh, especially when Oberon is in the scene.

Any additional comments?

This story drags on a bit but overall still up there as well worth listening to. Glad I bought it.

Don't mess with a Druid!

Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?

He does them all well. His Russian accent is awesome so I would say Perun, the russian god of thunder.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Gods, watch ye back. There is a Druid on the loose.

Any additional comments?

Great great series. So much fun. If you like mythology of all cultures mashed together into modern pop culture then these are your books. Suspend belief and just role with it. It is a fun ride. I'm on to the next in the series. TRICKED!!

Brilliant as usual

I enjoy getting to know the characters a little more with each book. Atticus is one of my favorites. Definitely read from the beginning.

Not as good as the first two, but still great!

If you could sum up Hammered in three words, what would they be?

Full of action

Who was your favorite character and why?

Leif - you learn a lot more about him in this story. A great vampire - not one of those wussy Twighlight guys! :)

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

Luke is the best narrator I've ever heard

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not as much as the first two, but yet

Best book of the series yet

This entry in the series is the best so far. It takes a slightly different approach and the pacing is different but I think it is for the best.
