BOOK 3 IN THE IRON DRUID CHRONICLES

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is worse than a blowhard and a bully - he’s ruined countless lives and killed scores of innocents. After centuries, Viking vampire Leif Helgarson is ready to get his vengeance, and he’s asked his friend Atticus O’Sullivan, the last of the Druids, to help take down this Norse nightmare.

One survival strategy has worked for Atticus for more than two thousand years: stay away from the guy with the lightning bolts. But things are heating up in Atticus’s home base of Tempe, Arizona. There’s a vampire turf war brewing, and Russian demon hunters who call themselves the Hammers of God are running rampant. Despite multiple warnings and portents of dire consequences, Atticus and Leif journey to the Norse plain of Asgard, where they team up with a werewolf, a sorcerer, and an army of frost giants for an epic showdown against vicious Valkyries, angry gods, and the hammer-wielding Thunder Thug himself.

Entertaining

DS11 loved it. It's like Rick Riordan for an older audience. Highschool level language and content. DS is listening to it for the THIRD time and still giggling intermittently. I really enjoyed it as well. Very original.

3.5 Stars

Hammered is book 3 of The Iron Druid Chronicles. It was not my favorite of the series but I still enjoyed it. There wasn't a whole lot happening for a lot of the book and most of the book was spent without Oberon, Atticus' dog. Oberon has become such an important character in the series that his absence was like a gaping hole.

I really liked that we got to hear everyone's stories and find out why Gunnar and Leif hated Thor sop much. And after hearing all the stories, I hated Thor too!

Just like with the prior books, the narrator was fantastic. He has great voices and really brings the story to life.

I am interested in continuing the series but will take a bit of a break first and read/listen to some other books. I accidentally saw a massive spoiler and I'm not so sure that I was to see that happen so maybe if I wait a bit, it won't be as upsetting.

Across the Rainbow Bridge

If you've read the first two books, you know what's coming just by the title: the promised quest to end the life of Thor is at hand... but not without some stops, side trips, upheavals, and character backstory info dumps along the way. It's by no stretch the best world building I've ever seen, but it gets the job done and opens the world considerably in the process. This tale doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Instead, it just gets out of its own way so the fun can continue.

Always the height of entertainment

The story is beautifully read with absolute life and intensity. The degree which the writer weaves in humor and the expression with which it is read is wonderful. Can't wait to hear the next book!!

Because it's Kevin Hearne!

If you can listen to one of the Iron Druid Books and not enjoy it... you have no soul. The Kevin and Luke bring the world of O'Sullivan to life.
