In the last years of the Forerunner empire, chaos rules. The Flood - a horrifying shape-changing parasite - has arrived in force, aided by unexpected allies. Internal strife within the ecumene has desperately weakened Forerunner defenses.
Too little, too late, the legal rate of Juridicals is only now investigating possible crimes by the Master Builder and others. Evidence-gathering agents known collectively as Catalog have been dispatched to collect testimony from the Librarian and both Didacts: the Ur-Didact, treacherously abandoned in a Flood-infested system, and the Bornstellar Didact, who accompanies the Librarian as she preserves specimens against the dire possibility of Halo extermination.
Facing the imminent collapse of their civilization, the Librarian and the Ur-Didact reveal what they know about the relationship between the long-vanished Precursors and the Flood. The Precursors created many technological species, including humanity and the Forerunners. But the roots of the Flood may be found in an act of enormous barbarity, carried out beyond our galaxy 10 million years before.... Because of that barbarism, a greater evil looms. Only the Ur-Didact and the Librarian - husband and wife pushed into desperate conflict - hold the keys to a solution. Facing the consequences of a mythic tragedy, one of them must now commit the greatest atrocity of all time - to prevent an insane evil from dominating the entire universe.

YES! I love the Halo universe!
Getting to know the deeper stories about the Forerunners and the truth behind the flood!
He should think about doing more!
This a great prequel story to the Halo saga. Questions about how it all started and the ultimate purpose of everything is contained in this book.
This is a must read for all Halo fans and it sets the stage for all the games. I am now looking forward to what happens next in Halo 5.
An epic adventure featuring the end of all known life in the known galaxy. How it all began. if you want to know the history of the forerunners then must read.
I wish this would have come out before Halo 4. So many questions were answered in this book that I had during game play. Occasionally frustrated by getting lost in so many multiple story lines.
No single favorite.
There were sentences that felt like they were ready by another person and then went back to normal again. Couldn't understand that.
Sigh of relief with more understanding
I have no idea how Greg, Microsoft, or 343 Industries is going to go deeper or further in the Halo saga, but I can't wait to find out.
I feel Eric Nylund got the SciFi / Military fiction style right. Bear's vision is far too touchy-feely. This reads more like Harry Potter meets Ancient Aliens.
Yes, but not military fiction. My impression is that Bear wrote this without ever playing Halo, and didn't understand what made the series into cult fiction.
None of the characters felt like they belonged in the Halo universe. Morton's performance was fine; he just needs more appropriate material to work with.
The pace and tone of the story was very good. I It was great to see and experience everything that has happened before the events of the first Halo.
Thee narration, on the other hand, was very monotone. It was hard to differentiate between the characters.
overall a very good book
Just love listing to audiobooks. Some of my favorite authors are Vince Flynn and Brad Thor
Yes but it can get a little confusing with regards to how fast it can jump from one story line to another
It's a great ending to the prequel of the original Halo books.
Just a good solid performance. And I would recommend any of his other books
No I did not.
So there has been few weak books in the halo series all of which is highly recommended if your into the games, but the forerunners trilogy I enjoyed alot must admit. Book 2 of forerunners was ok but this picks it up and leaves you wanting more. Only giving this the 4/5 'cause at parts the narration got little bit annoying.. For me for those that have listened to this I'm sure can agree, still good buy if you want to learn of the history of the forerunners!
Don't write reviews nor do I listen to many audio books but this series was amazing, ups and downs through this book but I would definitely recommend for the very well written story (in my opinion) and definitely for the conclusion. I ended up really liking the narrator and felt it easy to listen to. Shame there are no more forunner books as these were excellent, guess I'll start listening to some of the 26th century books now.
"Just not interested"
Off shoot of the halo series. I have read the previous two books that made me think twice about buying this one. As a fan of Halo I felt compelled to buy this. I listened to this dull uneventful story wasting hours of my life that I will not get back again.
Ok I have done the 3 halo books, that is more than any mortal can be expected to stand. NO is the answer.
Ask Karen Travis to write the book.
Utter emptiness, nobody will ever make a video game of this vacuous tale.
It simply does deserve further commment
