Publisher's Summary

The Covenant has collapsed after a long, brutal war that saw billions slaughtered on Earth and her colonies. For the first time in decades, however, peace finally seems possible. But though the fighting's stopped, the war is far from over: it's just gone underground.

The UNSC's feared and secretive Office of Naval Intelligence recruits Kilo-Five, a team of ODSTs, a Spartan, and a diabolical AI to accelerate the Sangheili insurrection. Meanwhile, the Arbiter, the defector turned leader of a broken Covenant, struggles to stave off civil war among his divided people.

Across the galaxy, a woman thought to have died on Reach is actually very much alive. Chief scientist Dr. Catherine Halsey broke every law in the book to create the Spartans, and now she's broken some more to save them. Marooned with Chief Mendez and a Spartan team in a Forerunner slipspace bubble hidden in the destroyed planet Onyx, she finds that the shield world has been guarding an ancient secret – a treasure trove of Forerunner technology that will change everything for the UNSC and mankind.

As Kilo-Five joins the hunt for Halsey, humanity’s violent past begins to catch up with all of them as disgruntled colony Venezia has been biding its time to strike at Earth, and its most dangerous terrorist has an old, painful link with both Halsey and Kilo-Five that will test everyone’s loyalty to the limit.

"Traviss at the top of her game"

Man, I hope the rest of the trilogy is as good as this book - Glasslands deserves to be recognised beyond the world of franchise fiction as a damn good sci fi novel in itself - multi-layered, considered, brooding - its got a lot of personality for a novel based on a video game.

Also - please keep Euan on this gig - his reading captures the whole thing perfectly.

"One of the best in the Halo saga"
Would you listen to Halo: Glasslands again? Why?

Yes, this is a great continuation of the story started in Ghosts of Onyx.

What other book might you compare Halo: Glasslands to and why?

Glasslands is written quite similarly to Ghosts of Onyx, continuing the story and expanding to include a great new cast of characters.

What about Euan Morton’s performance did you like?

Characters are well defined by the distinct voices he uses for each one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

None stand out as the whole book was great.

"Excellent Addition to the Halo Universe!"
If you could sum up Halo: Glasslands in three words, what would they be?

    Great, intense, suspenseful

What was one of the most memorable moments of Halo: Glasslands?

*SPOILER* I have to say that when they brought Halsey away. Or maybe the scene when the Sanghilei (can't remember his name) got decked by Naomy... Naomi... Whatever.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Halsey's interrogation.

    Any additional comments?

This book is an Amazing addition to the Halo Univeres and a major gap filler for Halo 3-Halo 4.

"A Great Continuation from Ghosts of Onyx"
Where does Halo: Glasslands rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best books I've listened too. The story is well written for an audiobook setting.

What other book might you compare Halo: Glasslands to and why?

Read or listen to the first 4 Halo books: Halo: Fall of Reach through Halo: Ghosts of Onyx. These books build up the story line to where Grasslands takes off.

What about Euan Morton’s performance did you like?

Very good storytelling. His voices really bring life to the characters. One of the best audiobook narrations I've heard

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's way too long for one sitting, but definitely one that kept you wanting to hear more!

"Could Be My favorite Of The Halo Series"
What did you love best about Halo: Glasslands?

I've enjoyed the entire Halo story, and Karen Traviss takes the story to a new level. Well laced with character building and humor, and less on the weapons and battle description (because lets face it, by now we know that stuff very well)

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character would be Naomi. Ive always wanted to see a confidently humorous Spartan

Which character – as performed by Euan Morton – was your favorite?

all of them were very well done

"Great part of the Halo canon"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely! This is a great piece with a lot of backstory for the Halo canon. Any Halo fan would surely appreciate it!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Dr. Halsey. Her interactions with the spartans as well as her superiors was great to see and enlightening as far as Halo backstory was concerned.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The part where The commanding office and Dr. Halsey explain about Red and Blue Spartan origins.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes fore sure!

    Any additional comments?

Great story and great addition to the Halo realm.

"started slow but picked up by the end."
Where does Halo: Glasslands rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

So far this is my second least favorite of the Halo books (the flood is my least favorite).

If you’ve listened to books by Karen Traviss before, how does this one compare?

This is my first book by Karen Travis.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Hard to say. It was probably one of the scenes with Admiral Parangosky.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but I did enjoy it.

    Any additional comments?

I really didn't like the way Dr. Halsey was written. Chief Mendez either. Pretty jarring change from Ghost of Onyx.

    "The narrator is terrible"
What would have made Halo: Glasslands better?

If the narration was not monotone, I would have enjoyed this much better

Who was your favorite character and why?

BB, AI are always very interesting.

What didn’t you like about Euan Morton’s performance?

His monotone made it hard to digest the information contained in this book. It was nearly impossible to tell when characters were speaking aloud or in their own heads. His voice droned on and made me want to stop listening even though I wanted to finish the story.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    The story was fine.

    Any additional comments?

Performances of audio books need to be actual performances, not just readings. I should have just picked up the book at the store so I could have read it myself.

"Superb book and a must read for any Halo Fan!"

After reading/listening to all the previous titles i really looked forward to Glasslands as it followed on from the brilliant Ghosts of Onyx and it certainly didn't disappoint me. All aspects of the story flowed along at a steady pace and didn't come across as boring at any point. So if you are a Halo Fan then this book is a MUST Read or Listen (I had audio book version) and will not disappoint.

However if you are new to the Halo Series of books then avoid this title and you need to start from Harvest or Fall of Reach, either of those books has a more natural progression into Glasslands as this book will be difficult to understand if you have no prior knowledge of the Halo Series.

    Cheers

    "Fast paced, and engaging."

Glasslands is set after the events of the third Halo game and follows a newly formed team of ONI agents called KIlo 5. The charcters of Vas, Mal, Phillips (or Phillys as the hinge heads call him) alongside Osman Naomi and the wonderfully wicked Black Box A.I. angage you immediately and your join them on their first mission. Alongside this is a parallel trhead of plot tying up the loose ends of Ghosts of Onyx in an intrigueing way. Game tie-ins get bad press in the main thanks to some truly woeful films, but Karen Traviss show how it should be done.

    "Excellent continuation of the story"

Theres not much more to say other than this is brilliant. I was waiting for the next installment for my commute to and from work and I was not disappointing. Certainly as the previous reviewer noted, this is not the book to start the series on, but if you are already knee deep in the story its spot on. In fact, it is certainly setting up some of the story to tie in with Halo 4 game.

A must read if you are a fan of the series.
