Some prey bites back.
Welcome to Halfway, where the waffles are golden, the moon is silver, and magic is just around every corner. A century-old curse is broken, releasing Exit Wainwright, an innocent man trapped alone in time. Lost and in danger, he enlists Carlie, Gran, and their magic to find the warlock who sentenced him to a hundred years of darkness. The hunter becomes the hunted when Carlie's spells awaken a cold-blooded killer intent on adding another pelt to their gruesome collection: hers. But the killer has never been to Halfway before, where there are three unbreakable rules.
1. Don't complain about the diner's waffles.
2. Don't break the laws of magic.
3. Never threaten a witch on her home turf.

After the ending of book 2, I dived into this one as soon as I could! I needed to see what happened to Wulfric!!! Well, what a read! I don't want to spoil something so this part of the synopsis sums it up pretty good... "Can Carlie solve an ancient crime, defeat a ruthless killer and save the love of her life from a vampire's curse without burning the waffles?" That's basically what this book is about, but also so much more!! There's Exit, a man stuck in time, a quest to find the warlock and Carlie must try to save Wulfric, all the while trying to stay true to being a white witch!
Once again, the author has created an action packed and addicting read! I loved the addition of Exit in this one. He has been asleep for a centuary do to a spell cast upon him. Now awake, he is eager to find answers and who better to help him than Carlie!! His biggest question is what happened to his wife, Reina!
Poor Carlie. I felt for her in this one. She wants to save everyone, but at what cost? Is love worth turning from the light? Plus she has to deal with questions and secrets coming at her all the time!! Despite this, she is still her sassy and fun self though.
The plot was once again, a doozy!! So much happening and so many twists! It's a book that will grip you from the start and not let go. This book, and indeed, the whole series is a fun, emotional, adventurous read. Halfway is a place where everyone should visit!! Come for the waffles. Stay for the magic.
Again, Erin Spencer did an amazing job with the narration. She has such a pleasant and easy to listen to voice, that the story was effortless to listen to. I love how she portrays Carlie!!
I chose to review this audiobook after receiving a free copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
This is the third book in the Halfway series. I read the first book, Halfway Dead, and even though I didn’t get the chance to read the second book, Halfway Hunted gave enough back story that I was able to figure out what I missed.
Carlie is a good witch. She is young, cute, and betrothed to a vampire. She’s been working on a spell for months that will hopefully turn her lover into a human. It’s risky and dangerous but it’s a risk she is willing to take. At the same time, she is dealing with Exit who has been in the dark for a century. He needs Carlie’s help to find the warlock who did this to him. Of course, Carlie uncovers more than she wanted…
Carlie is quirky, likable and stubborn. She’s not perfect but she’d make the perfect friend. Her Gran, who is also a witch, has a lot more experience than Carlie and she learns a lot from her.
Erin Spencer did a great job narrating. Her voice is perfect as Carlie and she changed her tone just enough so that I knew when someone else was speaking.
I like Terry Maggert’s writing style and I definitely recommend Halfway Hunted, especially if you like reading books with mystery and humor.
The Book Junkie Reads. . .
Erin Spencer has returned for more of Carlie and her antics this time around. The sarcasim, waffles, magic, and Halfway, NY would not quite be the same without her inflections, timing, cadence, and inflections of warmth, humor, witt, and of course her own flare of magic. There feels like a connection between Erin and the story on the pages. For me, Erin's voice is that of Carlie. She's the key factor to making this audio read climb over just being a normal reading.
The story itself. . .We're back for the waffles, the magic, the nights of the full moon, the mystery, and the drive to do the right thing. Carlie is back. The cast of characters are right there with her. This time were on an ancient hunt to solve a mystery long since closed in time. But while trying to solve one incident there was another that created a deadly vibe in the air for Carlie. This time around Carlie may not have all the answers.
Maggert added to the series that I have come to love. I get a some humor, mystery, insight, Grans, Carlie and of course her latest activities good, bad, and indifferent. This time one crazy warlock, a few beautiful panther, a chase that puts Carlie in the sights, a few chilling spells, and one thrilling adventure.
I had so much fun here. I look forward to more adventures of Carlie. I get a lot of what I love in a good read that I don't have to take so seriously or stress about what may come out the next page or two. I can read at leisure and enjoy each new revelation. Terry Maggert has a follower of this series, wherever it may go. I love Carlie's adventures.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Terry Maggert. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
Halfway Hunted really got into how cruel and terrible some people, er, creatures? can be toward others. It starts with finding a man who awakens from a hundred year slumber curse, asking our witchy heroine to help find what happened to his family, to unearthing a terrible, um, collection of furs. And a whole lot in between.
This third story definitely is a heavy one and continues on the path of twisty turny plots this series is fond of. Our girl Carlie, and Gran, bravely take on scary bad people again and again to protect their friends and the people of their lands.
Carlie even shows her strength as a witch and her willpower with her continual work on a spell to save her beloved from the vampire curse. Even though it is dangerous, terrifying, forbidden even. She will do all she can to help those she loves.
One thing that I had a difficult time with in this series is the passage of time. I didn't realize almost a year had passed from this book to the previous one. Somewhere I'm missing these details until they are clearly stated as part of dialogue or something else.
The narration continues to be wonderful for this series. I like the narrator's voice and tone and her talking speed. I like the voices she gives to other characters, and the bit of attitude she gives Carlie and Gran.
Definitely an enjoyable 3rd book and series overall.
