Publisher's Summary

Ancient Greece is a place where mortals are the playthings of the gods but at the core of each city-state lies a Labyrinth, where mortals can shape the heavens to their own design.

When Theseus comes away from the Labyrinth with the prize and his beloved, the Mistress of the Labyrinth, his future seems assured. But she bears him only a daughter and when he casts her aside for this, the world changes. From that day forward, the Labyrinths decay, and power fades from the city-states.

A hundred years pass, Troy falls, the Trojans scatter. Brutus, the warrior-king of Troy, receives a vision of distant shores where he can rebuild the ancient kingdom. He will move heaven and earth to reach his destiny, but in the mists is a woman of power who has her own reasons for luring Brutus to these green shores.

If Brutus makes this journey successfully, it will be the next step in the Game of the Labyrinth, and the start of a complicated contest of wills to span the centuries.

What the Critics Say

"In this dazzling start to a new trilogy, Australian author Douglass once again combines mythology, fantasy, magic and romance to produce a consistent, well-rounded story full of seriously flawed characters both abhorrently evil and enthrallingly empathetic....Douglass continually surprises, and readers will eagerly await the next two books." (Publishers Weekly)
"Sheryl Bernstein brings fortitude to this saga." (AudioFile)

    "wonderful"

i'm not sure why this doesn't have a better rating. i thought the writing was excellent, and the plot is fresh and exciting. i also really enjoyed the narration.

i highly recommend this to fantasy fans, and i for one am looking forward to the sequel!

    "Slow start"

This book is overall pretty good. The problem with it is that the author takes so long in setting up the story and the characters that you are likely to become bored before things really take off. However the ending leaves you wanting to know where the next book will take the story.
I hope that the publisher creates an audio version of "God's Concubine" which is the next book.

Enjoyable listen. I hope the other books in the trilogy show up on Audible soon. I enjoy books (like this one) where you get to know multiple characters as opposed to books where each chapter is focused primarily on the main character.

    "Hade's Daughter"

A good listen. Little slow at first but once you get into it a good story with future potential for sequels.

    "Couldn't finish"

I am afraid that this book was boring, the characters shallow and hard to care about, and the action too drawn out. The idea behind the story was great, but I suffered through about 3/4 of the book and finally moved on to better things. I was disappointed because I normally really like this author.

even though it took a little bit longer to really get into this book it is definitely worth it. The characters are well written and you love to hate some and feel the heartache of others. For those who enjoy tales of magic!

    "Poor Book, Poor Narration"

I've enjoyed other series by Sara Douglass and was looking forward to this book and the rest of the series but I was greatly disappointed. I found the storyline to be boring, slow and lacking in any complexity. It appears to have been targetted at a feminine audience, so much so that I found it cringe-worthy at times. I also struggled with the narrator. Nothing against women narrators but please, stick to subtle voice modulation only. The attempts at trying to come across with a deep, masculine tone, in particular for the Brutus character were truly awful and almost enough to stop me bothering to finish the book.

    "Worth the chance"

This book does start out slow and somewhat confusing, but so do many movies. The idea behind a mystery novel is to gradually bring the peices together. i agree it was hard to follow for the first couple hours, but when it picked up it was impossible to put down. Regardless of whether it kept accuracy of ancient mythology didn't really matter being that fiction does carry some creative license. i very much hope the next book will be recorded.

    "Hades Daughter"

I really loved this audiobook and wish that you would get the next 2 as I am just dying to find out the rest of the story. It is a real waste of time and money to only get part of the story.
