Publisher's summary

In this, the sequel to A Hymn Before Battle, Captain Michael O'Neal and his forces on Earth prepare to hold back an impending Posleen invasion.

"Thanks to alien technology and sheer guts, the Terrans on two worlds fought the Posleen to a standstill. Thank God there was a moment to catch our breath, a moment, however brief, of peace.

"Now, for the survivors of the Barwhon and Diess Expeditionary Forces, it was a chance to get some distance from the blood and misery of battle against the Posleen centaurs. A blessed chance to forget the screams of the dying in purple swamps and massacres under searing alien suns."

One of my favorite all time books!

Any additional comments?

There is a lot of cussing, but I was in the military, and if you are going for realism...

If you like realism in your sci-fi, this series and John Ringo is awesome!! From the generals who think the know everything, and who run the military, to the politics, to way military people work and talk, this book is spot on! If you think this is not exactly the way things would go, you don't know how things REALLY are in the armed forces. You must remember, military men and women have some of the biggest egos on the planet and don't like being told they are doing it wrong! This goes double for old soldiers! This book draws you in and makes you care about the characters without boring you to death with the every thought going through there mind. This is an adult book because of the large amount of cussing. Unless you like tough, cussing, bloody battles, I would not get this book, you probably wont like it. It's got a ton of action and not a lot of toughie feely stuff. I liked this one at least as much if not more than the Halo series. I LOVE the Halo series, so that says a lot! Halo is also a combat book series, and a hit video game. This series so far is even better than Ringos hot gate series. This series(so far) is a must have for the serious sci-fi war buff!

Awesome!

Enjoyed every minute. I'm a former soldier and it was like sitting and talking about old times. Except there were killer aliens.

Overall good, but a bit of a tease

A big build up, then respectable small skirmishes, ending with a letdown by the main protagonist. Should have been epic. Instead just a whimper. Similar to 2nd half of book 2 of Troy Rising and book 3. Crossing fingers it gets more focused. Perhaps too much time given to ancillary characters...just like Troy Rising.

I love note, not just engineers, but artillery an mortar companies to

While we don’t see as much of the ACS in this book, as I would’ve wanted, it once again, accurately (I think) portrays the bureaucracy, strategy, and sociopolitical impacts most likely to be felt in such a situation. Once again, fantastically, detailed in technical and tactical descriptions.

This is CAN of Military Sci-Fiction Woop Ass!

I started reading John Ringo when he first got started. So I was excited to see most of his books going audio. This is as good as it gets. The audio book does not disappoint. The narrator does it justice. I am ex-army retired and a computer weenie (26 years), and believe that John captures the flavor and essence of the military and the techie side of warfare as well..lots of action and lots of good ideas and new concepts.

KICK ASS!!!

If you could sum up Gust Front in three words, what would they be?

Earth desperate fight for existance in a universe manipulate by Allien races bent on either eating or using us to suite their aims.

What other book might you compare Gust Front to and why?

There is no comparison out there that for this book that I have found yet. This book is nail biting fun combined with good old fashion don't screw with the USA. It’s a hell of a ride.

Which character – as performed by Marc Vietor – was your favorite?

Michael O'Neil was the best character of any book I have listened to so far. That’s actually saying a lot. Veitor’s voice is the perfect Clint Eastwood meets General Patton bad ass as Michael O’Neil.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me want to go out and kick the ass of any and all enimies of the USA.

Any additional comments?

This was the best book I have listened to so far. I like the action and the honor of the main character and the storyline. This was a damn good story well written and narrated perfectly.

Good continuation.

It was a good second story. Needed more closure though to feal finished. Some parts like at the farm needed more detail.
