Kat Richardson excels at creating vivid, fast-moving novels that blend urban fantasy with paranormal mystery. In Greywalker, Seattle P.I. Harper Blaine is viciously attacked and murdered - but after exactly two minutes, somehow she returns to life. Now she's seeing strange things all around her - dark visions from the shadow world - and living a normal life may no longer be possible no matter how hard she tries.

Hard to get a feel for the "grey world"

What did you like best about Greywalker? What did you like least?

I liked the premise of "The Grey" world but didn't think the author gave a sufficient description.

What could Kat Richardson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Work on descriptive background.

Did Mia Barron do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Not really. Sounded like a 12 year old and cannot perform male characters.

Was Greywalker worth the listening time?

No.

Good cast of characters to build a series on

Have been looking at this book for awhile, hesitating because of the mixed reviews. Luckily, it came on sale, so glad I gave it a try. The first of a new series, it had to lay quite a bit of groundwork, making the beginning kinda slow. Once, she got the 'grey' established in our minds; she started adding characters. That's what I liked most about this book, and will keep me reading more of the series. They are an interesting lot, all with different backgrounds and personalities. The narrator did a good job, with expressing all their differences. Harper is a PI, that gets drug in to this grey area, by dying and being revived. She is stuck with that reality now, and at first has a hard time dealing with it. She resists through most of the book, but her clients tend to drag her in to the "grey'. So, everything meshes together, and we end up with the beginning of what looks like a worthwhile series. It's strictly paranormal PI work, with a little romance, so if you're looking for a typical paranormal romance, it won't be for you. This heroine is more interested in her job, than her love life.

unique

It was a tiny bit hard to follow, just information overload, and lots of unanswered questions, but I still look forward to reading the next book. I am hoping that it reads more smoothly.

A fun take on the paranormal ...

I actually bought this book as well as the sequel but they have sat on my book shelf for a long while now gathering dust as I kept finding something else to read and would come back and flip through for a moment or two and just decide I wasn't ready to read this one quite yet.

Then I found the audio book, had some credits to burn and said 'what the heck!' and I'm very pleased that I did.

Greywalker takes a new twist on the paranormal and their powers and I rather enjoyed the book. I think a few parts of it are stretching it on how quickly she jumps into some rolls but honestly, what book doesn't do that when dealing with the paranormal.

This is a very good audio book, the narrator did her job marvelously and I have to admit that the second that the follow up book becomes available as an audio listen that I'll be snatching it up eagerly.

maybe with a bit more descriptive variety...

This series was on sale. I recognized this title as one that I've been wanting to read for awhile, so I picked up the first book thinking that, if I liked it, I would buy the rest of the series while it was on sale.

I guess the fact that I did not buy any more books in the series answers the question as to whether or not I liked the book.

The story starts out well - bit of mystery as to what's going on, bit of mystery that Harper has to solve, so far so good. Then we learn what the Grey is, but we, the readers, are the only ones who listen - Harper spends the entire book denying what she is. This denial makes her sick and queasy (and we hear about this about, say, 37 times in the book) but she doesn't take the "expert's" advice and stop fighting it. No, she spends the ENTIRE book complaining how beat up and dragged out and tired and sick she is. Please, Harper, take a pill. Or, better yet, accept the fact that you're a Greywalker.

But even when she looks into/uses the Grey (still denying it, but anyway)... we're subjected to the same descriptions of the "roiling blackness" and the red edging and the crimson lines and the wavering edges about 242 times.

I like my heroines to have more backbone and less whininess and my authors to have more variety in their descriptions. I'm not saying it's a bad story, it's just not tightly enough written that I'd choose to read more in the series given that there's a whole slew of urban fantasy books out there. Oh, the narration was very good, there is no sex in it, and I don't think there was any swearing.

A Unique Take on the Paranormal

I really like this new take on the paranormal. The author takes the genre on a new course by creating a unique perspective on "I see dead people." The main character is believable and you can easily empathize with her as she adapts to her new way of life. Its a good blend of mystery story and paranormal ideas. The main character sees herself as slightly flawed due to her new ability, yet she overcomes this by relying on her abilities as a private investigator. A great new idea for the paranormal genre.

Glad I bought the first 3!

This is a good start to a cool new series. The characters are varied and interesting, and the exploration of ghosts / magic etc, is unique.
I especially love the take on vampires- less sexy, more terrifying! Don't get me wrong, I love Frost's sexy vampires, but this flavor of paranormal is great too.

I feel like this is a more mature, less sensational, less fuzzy romance, type of series. I'm glad I bought the first three books in the series on sale!

Great story-worth two credits

This is my first book by this author and it grabbed me from the beginning. I will be buying the other books in the series.

Terrible Narrator

Liked the story. Very suspenseful and can't wait for the 2nd installation. However, the narration was terrible. The narrator spoke too slowly, e n u n c i a t e d every letter, it seemed, and there was negligible voice distinction between the characters. Hope she does it better in the next book. I ended up borrowing the book from the library in order to appreciate the flow and flavor of the story.
