Publisher's summary

Arch-swindler Moist von Lipwig never believed his crimes were hanging offenses, until he found himself with a noose around his neck, dropping through a trap door, and falling into...a government job? Getting the moribund Postal Service up and running again, however, may be an impossible task. Worse, the new Postmaster could swear the mail is talking to him. Worst of all, it means taking on the gargantuan, money-hungry Grand Trunk clacks communication monopoly and its bloodthirsty piratical head, Mr. Reacher Gilt.

But it says on the building 'Neither Rain Nor Snow Nor Glo m of Ni t'.... Inspiring words (admittedly, some of the bronze letters have been stolen), and for once in his wretched life Moist is going to fight. And if the bold and impossible are what's called for, he'll do it; to move the mail, continue breathing, get the girl, and deliver that invaluable commodity that everyone requires: hope.

Critic reviews

  • Audie Award Finalist, Fiction (unabridged), 2005

"Thanks to the timely subject matter and Pratchett's effervescent wit, this 29th Discworld novel may capture more of the American audience he deserves." (Publishers Weekly)

"Instead of revisiting old characters, Pratchett again takes on the task of further rounding out his already beautifully imagined Discworld, doing it with his usual blending of good laughs and unexpected depths." (Booklist)

Brilliant Narration

Stephen Briggs superbly conveys the sense and humor of Pratchett's writing. His voice characterizations and accents are flawless. I've not heard anyone else read Pratchett, but I can't imagine it being done better. I've enjoyed the Audible versions of this and 'Wee Free Men' better than any other Discworld books I've read.

Very interesting and insightful book.

If you want people to review the books, why do you force limitations on them.

I recommend the book, especially to my fellow Postal Service employees. Teeheehee

Fantastic as always, this is one of the best!

This book, and series, is one of the shiniest gems in Pratchett's shepards crown! Great narration as well.

A Real Beauty

I've never been crazy about Sci-Fi or Fantasy, but this book (and series) is excellent. It reminds me a bit of a well-written TV sitcom like 'Frasier', in that it's all about the characters and the funny situations. You find yourself rooting for the main character. Pratchett writing style is best described as whimsical. The narration by Stephen Briggs is amazingly good. I can't imagine it being done any better. He has a wide range of voices, with great interpretation that adds to the experience, especially the voice of the Golem.

Wonderful story odd rooting for Bad Guys to win.

When a story reaches you deep enough that you wish you were there to see it, and cheer it on. That is Masterful Storytelling. I am going to buy the Movie to this story because I believe like Hogfather it will be timeless and I truly want to share it with others.

Moist but not wet Von Lupwig at his besy

Terry Pratchett's Disc World continues to provide excellent escapism with a wickedly twisted sense of humor! Go there and enjoy!

The post office has never been so funny....

Well read and a brilliantly comic romp through Pratchett‘s cleverly irrational universe, presented in an ever so rational tone.
