Publisher's summary

Arch-swindler Moist von Lipwig never believed his crimes were hanging offenses, until he found himself with a noose around his neck, dropping through a trap door, and falling into...a government job? Getting the moribund Postal Service up and running again, however, may be an impossible task. Worse, the new Postmaster could swear the mail is talking to him. Worst of all, it means taking on the gargantuan, money-hungry Grand Trunk clacks communication monopoly and its bloodthirsty piratical head, Mr. Reacher Gilt.

But it says on the building 'Neither Rain Nor Snow Nor Glo m of Ni t'.... Inspiring words (admittedly, some of the bronze letters have been stolen), and for once in his wretched life Moist is going to fight. And if the bold and impossible are what's called for, he'll do it; to move the mail, continue breathing, get the girl, and deliver that invaluable commodity that everyone requires: hope.

Critic reviews

  • Audie Award Finalist, Fiction (unabridged), 2005

"Thanks to the timely subject matter and Pratchett's effervescent wit, this 29th Discworld novel may capture more of the American audience he deserves." (Publishers Weekly)

"Instead of revisiting old characters, Pratchett again takes on the task of further rounding out his already beautifully imagined Discworld, doing it with his usual blending of good laughs and unexpected depths." (Booklist)

Excellent!

Witty, creative, and exceptionally well delivered. Read it, er um, listen to it. That is all.

Great listen for someone that is looking for laugh

Every now and then we look for a book that will give us the ability to laugh at the writer and the situations that are contained in that book. This as well as many of the other disc world series fills that need. Much like Douglas Adams this world in Terry Pratchett uses their mastery of writing to bring comedy to their work. If you need a good laugh this is a great series for you.

Moist, trickster and rogue

Pratchett has created a detailed lovable rogue, with flawless development. Moist von Lipwig forever, I enjoy reading your story.

Smart, Funny, Wry & Wise

One doesn’t often have the pleasure of enjoying a story so clean, and so utterly satisfying. Not even slightly preachy, thank the heavens. I am hugely sick of preachy stories, thanks to children’s movies of late. This story is unapologetically adult, and quite delightful. The performance was spot on, thoroughly enjoyed it. The one complaint I have being a purely technical one: there were multiple moments of lost dialogue as corruption caused the sound to crackle. No more than a few words at a time, but still distressing.

Great Reader

The narrator for this book is one of the only men who has voiced a woman that didn’t make me want to cross a busy highway blindfolded. Really good work and of course the book is excellent.
