Based on the blockbuster Xbox game, this is the stunning story of the men and women who stood between a planet and total destruction - and now have to face the consequences of their actions.
After a brutal 15-year war for survival, the Coalition of Ordered Governments is forced to destroy mankind's last city in a final bid to stop the Locust Horde. As the survivors flee Jacinto, they must contend with the last of the Locust, bent on vengeance, as they struggle to stay alive in an icy wilderness.
Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago, and their fellow Gears fight to get Jacinto's refugees to a safe haven, but find themselves in a lawless new world where the enemy is human---and as desperate and dangerous as any grub.

Karen Traviss follows up her first book, Gears of War: Aspho Fields, with another great book. Traviss takes you through events that follow after the events of the video game Gears of War 2. Again, taking you into the past of the characters and how those events shaped their present day.
Colacci again does a great job narrating the book, bringing out the depth and emotion of the characters.
If you played the Gears of War series of games listening to this series of books is an absolute no brainer! Unless you are a multiplayer kind of person and didn't play the campaign but I am also assuming those people do not listen to audiobooks.
For those that did like the game story these books fill in the gaps and backstory in an amazing way that make playing the games again more fun. It also endears the characters to you in a way that would play a role in your emotional state as you play.
For anyone who never played or doesn't care about the games the books can be read without ever feeling like you missed out or leaving you confused. They simply stand on their own and enhance the games if you do play.
Traviss is able to write believable characters. These characters have their flaws, but remain likable. The characters are also not larger than life heros. They are seen to be impacted by the events they survive.
Yes! Traviss narrated the story often through the eyes of her characters. Each narration gave a slightly different image of the main cast, allowing the reader to develop their own opinions of the characters rather than being told "this is a cool character - like him."
Yes. Fortunately I have a blue tooth and and iphone. I was able to listen to it while at work filing papers.
Traviss has great talent with war stories. I will continue to read more of her work.
LOVE IT !!!
