Publisher's summary

Drizzt joins Bruenor on his quest for the fabled dwarven kingdom of Gauntlgrym: ruins said to be rich with ancient treasure and arcane lore. But before they even get close, another drow and dwarf pair stumbles across it first: Jarlaxle and Athrogate. In their search for treasure and magic, Jarlaxle and Athrogate inadvertently set into motion a catastrophe that could spell disaster for the unsuspecting people of the city of Neverwinter - a catastrophe big enough to lure even the mercenary Jarlaxle into risking his own coin and skin to stop it.

Unfortunately, the more they uncover about the secret of Gauntlgrym, the more it looks like they can’t stop it on their own. They’ll need help, and from the last people they ever thought to fight alongside again: Drizzt and Bruenor.

Gives fresh life to what was becoming stale!

I fell in love with the Drizzt series with the first series of books and enjoyed them tremendously for the first 5-6 books but then it started to become stale, but this was a great start to a fresh batch of Drizzt novels!

Positively love the Drizzt Series.

This is one of the better books I've read in the series. Or should say listened to. R.A. Salvatore has really hit his stride with writing these stories he never fails to entertain and write characters so very vivid I feel I'm literally looking at them with my own eyes. This book is bittersweet. I won't ruin it. The last couple of books have had some shocking upsets for me personally because I love so many of the characters. Jarlaxle is by far one of my favorite characters now. I'm hoping Dahlia is around for awhile she's a very interesting character and a potential love interest for Drizzt. At least maybe a rebound love. This book has everything a fan can want from the series. Lots of action and humor. Some very powerful enemies and impossible odds. I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I did. Victor does a FANTASTIC job of narrating the story. Starting part 2 of the Neverwinter series now.

Salvatore does it again!

this was an excellent book. in the true spirit of the Drizzt novels. Thank God they got Victor Bevine back! I hate when a book series looses the voice actor and switches up. Again thank God Victor Bevine is back.

Heart-wrenching and powerful

The end of the Ghost King plus this book are brutal but glorious. Bovine’s performance gives just power to the story and the big emotional punches

The last few sentences.

Not a bad story for RA Salvatore. His villains did seem pretty plain-brain as they did in the Canticle. They were not Drow-like or Methodical as Entrary. More like Obsessive Orcs. So, not to impressed with them. No great treasure was found, some made but still... Gauntlgrym held not so much wonder for me as it did for the Dwarves. I wasn't transported into the tale as in former books. All I can say is that some books, like this one, are transitioning the bigger plot. This book sets up the old group to be rejoined in the last few sentences.

Brand Name

I have really loved all of the Legend of Drizzt books so far. They are everything I like in fantasy adventure stories. Following Drizzt and the Companions of the Hall through their adventures has been a fantastic time. However, that being said, I feel as through Drizzt is becoming more of a brand name used to sell stories about other characters. in the last several books in his supposed narrative story, Drizzt has seemed much more of a side character than the main protagonist. The stories are fantastic, the action what I have come to expect, the new twists always exciting and the new (and old) characters are engaging and well done. They just don't feel like HIS story any more. More like stories that were written about other characters that Drizzt just happens to wander through so they can be labeled under the umbrella that is The Legend of Drizzt. I freely admit that I am only halfway through Gauntlgrym as I write this review so perhaps this will change but it is continuing the trend of focusing on other characters and factions while every now and then switching back to Drizzt briefly.

Again, I am enjoying these stories immensely, this is just my observation.

Salvatore's best book in years.

The book is super well written and the story just grips you from beginning to end. it helps a lot of your a devoted Drizzt fan with some background, but it's not a necessity. Very emotional parts that had me fighting back years twice while listening(at work lol).
I highly recommend it.
