Publisher's summary

In the realm of Alera, where people bond with the furies - elementals of earth, air, fire, water, and metal - 15-year-old Tavi struggles with his lack of furycrafting. But when his homeland erupts in chaos - when rebels war with loyalists and furies clash with furies - Tavi's simple courage will turn the tides of war.

Tavi is one of the most compelling Mc's I've ever read. he's witty charming and so damn smart amid great struggle.

I love this world.

Great!

Rome & Pokemon - a surprisingly wonderful mix.

Immersive world building & spot on narration.

The hero’s are so smart and everyone else are idiots

It was difficult to listen to this book. The performance was excellent. However, the characters were so annoying. The bad guys were so powerful but would act stupidly. The good guys would also act stupidly. How does the world even run with everyone but the hero’s being such idiots. It’s a common trope used to create drama and Jim butcher , overuses it. I’ll finish the book just to see what’s going to happen but I won’t read the next in the series.

A little battle heavy, but…

…the characters are well drawn and interesting. It’s not as engaging as the Dresden series, but I’m moving on to the second book.
