Publisher's summary

In the realm of Alera, where people bond with the furies - elementals of earth, air, fire, water, and metal - 15-year-old Tavi struggles with his lack of furycrafting. But when his homeland erupts in chaos - when rebels war with loyalists and furies clash with furies - Tavi's simple courage will turn the tides of war.

5 because (could be a spoiler)

I kept expecting the main character to somehow miraculously to gain his missing furies and he did not. the story held my attention and I found myself enjoying this. I have returned so many bad fantasy books but finally I have a series I can get into.

Great story!

Seems to be for a younger audience, but has a great story line. Narrator does a wonderful job.

Furies is Awesome from Beginning to End

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I bought this book based on my experience with Jim Butcher's Dresden wizard series. This one is very entertaining and makes the reader/listener want more.

What other book might you compare Furies of Calderon to and why?

I'd compare it to Terry Goodkind's series about The Seeker. It is a huge set of stories but all are well done.

Which scene was your favorite?

One of my favorite scenes was when the two young people were down in the valley looking for the mushroom and the adventures they had while discovering each other. There were lots of great scenes in the book. The characters were compelling and the magic just added to the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Furies are not always bad.

Jim Butcher does an awesome job of telling a story. I highly recommend ALL of his books. Intrigue, action, and magic all in one story. Very well told story

Great book, Great reading, Weird Audio Issues

What did you love best about Furies of Calderon?

Engaging characters, good magic system.

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kate Reading's readings are all quite good. She is one of the most talented readers around.

Any additional comments?

The book tends to jump, skipping a places where there should be a small pause. Seems like a rookie mistake made by a new audio engineer.

Enjoyed the book

Lots of twists and turns, fully developed characters, and a great performance. This was a great listen, often keeping me in the car a few minutes after I arrived at my destination.

Good

I found this book about a year before first lords fury while looking for a Dresden book and I picked it up. The whole series is amazing I devoured each book in 3 days. Furies isn't the best but I can't think of any other way to start off this series. I read/listen to each book about 6 times and I still enjoy them.

good book

good book however I found the editing of the reader choppy in some instances. The start of some of her sentences almost overlap the ending of the previous. when it happens its very jarring. otherwise good performance.
