Despite dating one vampire and living with another, Rachel Morgan has always managed to stay just ahead of trouble...until now.
A fiendish serial killer stalks the Hollows, and no one living in or around Cincinnati - human, inhuman, or undead - is safe.
An ancient artifact may be the key to stopping the murderer - a mysterious relic that is now in the hands of Rachel Morgan, fearless independent bounty hunter and reckless witch. But revealing it could ignite a battle to the death among the vast and varied local supernatural races.
Rachel's been lucky so far. But even she can't hide from catastrophe forever.

I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
This is a good, story, but not great like book 4.....the first half of the book drags a bit, but as a true Rachel fan, I knew it would get better...and BAM...the 2nd half of this book was incredibly awesome....
When Rachel tries to make a deal with the artifact...and it turns into a violent blood bath...I felt so bad for her....always trying to do something good, and it backfires....
I love Rachel of course, but then Jenks....and Al....
When they find Kisten....I was so sad....I loved him and he didn't deserve that....
I love this series, but since book 6 is not narrated by Marguerite Gavin, I will be reading it the old fashioned way on My Kindle....lol then I will go back to audio for book 7!
I am easily amused!
I loved this book but hated parts of it. Once again the book is nonstop action that leaves your head spinning and your heart reeling. There is a particularly steamy scene, which is the first in the series that I remember, that made quite an impression with me. The world building continues and The Hollows becomes more complicated and intriguing.
I would warn folks that it you are a big Rachel fan you may want to make sure that you finish the book in private because there are some heart wrenching events that are better read uninterrupted. A great book.
For the 5th book in the series, Rachel is another heroin that the character doesn't seem to grow as books progress, she seems suck in this whiney teenage girl that is a hippocrate. As far as being a hunter, she really hasn't done ANY hunting in the past 5 books. She has gotten her ass handed to her many times and saved by others many many times.
I have loved this series, and the way Marguerite Gavin narrates them. Jenks, especially, has been a hilarious part of the stories. But I am getting tired of Ivy's antics. Quite frankly, I have never been a fan of situations where one person tries to high pressure, or even force, someone to have sex with them. I can't find anything likable about this character who thinks she has the right to force someone else to live by what she want, dictating what Rachel's allowed to do. Nevermind what Rachel wants. And I really can't understand how Rachel is willing to put up with all the unreasonable demands Ivy puts on her. For this reason, I'm a little leary about continuing with this series. I think, at the very least, I will be taking a break from this series for a while.
Beginning: Carpenter Middle: Marine then Firefighter Latter part: IT Admin; Books have always provided fuel for my imagination to feed on.
Only listened to Audio version so I wouldn't really know... but I can guess I like audio books better than reading now that I have discovered them.
Oh the expansion of demon magic and demon and elven lore. I like the story arc and look forward to more history on the two races.
Ceridwen "Ceri" Merriam Dulciate oh I cant wait to see what she does with Trenton Aloysius Kalamack. Poor Trent, I don't think he has any idea....
More please give me more I'll do anything.

By the time you reach the end of this one, Rachel will have suffered her biggest personal loss to date (no spoilers). As with the previous titles, there is a lot of work done to strengthen the dimension of the characters in the series. Rachel and Ivy continue to do a dance of "blood/sex" limit testing. Jenks is the most stable of the trio and still one of my favorite characters.
This episode finds Weres being murdered as the inderland powers seek the focus. Several of the peripheral characters get a bit more face time and become a shade more interesting. Also, Rachel seems to be a demon magnet as more of the foul creatures find a way into her life.
There is some deep personal introspection by Rachel at the end that leaves you wanting to hurry and grab the next book to see where this tale might be going.
I've always loved books. Even before I could read I've loved them. Fact or Fiction, I love books. I'd sooner read a book than see a movie.
I prefer audio books to reading, as long as it is unabridged. Mostly because listening to a book saves me time by allowing me to multitask. I used to be an avid reader, but as I aged, my eyesight became poorer. For me reading became more of a chore, than a pleasure. Having talented narrators bring a book alive is great. Having listened to all of the Harry Potter books in audio book form was extremely entertaining. So much so that I preferred listening to them over the movie.
Patricia Briggs novels of Mercy Thompson, are similar. The style of writing and type of heroin are similar also. Except Mercy is a weir and not a witch.
I love the way she portrays any of the demons, it just gives me chills.
Who can you trust more, a vampire, fairy, werewolf or demon? You make the call.
Holy Jalapeno BatMan,what a book! This number in the Kim Harrison series really mixes things up.Alot of danger, mystery & some BIG changes happen in this book.Look forward to finding out more of the mystery of"WHAT"Rachel really is & what everyone seems to know but is not telling her & how she's going to go about everything. The possible betrayals, & strange abilities she seems to have but don't remember doing them.Enjoyed reading this one. Love them all so far:)
Yes. The way the narrator brings the characters to life really makes this story even better
Rachel trying to negotiate with the focus
LOVE this series! Living in Cincinnati now and having grown up in "the Hollows", I'm along for the ride and can visualize the location of almost every scene. Can't wait to see where we're going next!
The complex relationships between the main characters draw you in, and sometimes make you shake your head and ask, "What was s/he thinking!?!?!" Rachel's penchant for pursuing a criminal, and then eventually saving that person's life, makes you wonder if she has a higher sense of integrity or if its just another case of her acting out first without thinking about the consequences. One thing's for sure... anyone who takes a romantic interest in Rachel should beware!
Marguerite Gavin's narration has helped to make this one series that I just can't turn off.
