Publisher's summary

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is Chicago's only openly practicing wizard. He is also dead broke. His vast knowledge and magical skills are unfortunately matched by his talent for making powerful enemies and alienating friends. With little more than his integrity left, he accepts an offer of work from Lt. Karin Murphy of Chicago's Special Investigations Unit. He wants to redeem himself in Murphy's eyes and make enough money to quiet his rumbling stomach.

Soon he finds himself pinned between trigger-happy FBI agents, shape-shifiting motorcycle gang members, a threatened mobster boss, and an heir to an ancient curse along with his primal fiance. Throw in environmental activists and a pair of young werewolves in love and you have something of Fool Moon.

Good story, but reader needs better direction

I like Marster's narration otherwise, but the constant sharp inhalations, swallowing sounds, sighs, and gasps can be grating.

Even Better Than Storm Front

Although I read Fool Moon for the first time a few years ago, I recently listened to the audio version to gear up for Cold Days, the 14th installment in the ongoing Dresden saga. What I found was that Fool Moon was easily as good as I remembered.

In Storm Front, the first Dresden novel, Jim Butcher introduces us to Harry Dresden and a couple of secondary characters, but that novel is really Harry's novel and he's more or less on his own. Having read the first 13 novels in the series, I can vouch that the secondary characters are some of the best that I've encountered in any series. Thus, I was very glad that we got to see some more of Murphy and were introduced to the Alphas in Fool Moon.

It was also nice to see a more intricate plot, although I have to say that it's possible that this one got a bit convoluted by the end. Let's just say that there were a lot of werewolves (as you might expect by the title) and it got a little difficult to keep them all straight.

Regardless, Fool Moon was another step forward in a series that somehow seems to get better with each novel.

I should also acknowledge that James Marsters makes a great Harry Dresden. He has a great sense for the character and a flare for the dramatic. He isn't a perfect narrator, but I can't imagine a better Dresden.

Overall, I found Fool Moon to be very enjoyable the second time. I would honestly recommend this series to anyone, but especially those that favor urban fantasy or noir detective novels.

for audio version, listened and read this one too

Not kindle unlimited, roommate has these various ways, working thru them, various formats but many on kindle, some also on audio for first few so will do review on those separately as well, have a few of these, like Marsters voice, suits story character

Meet Harry Dresden, Chicago's first (and only) Wizard P.I. Turns out the 'everyday' world is full of strange and magical things - and most of them don't play well with humans. That's where Harry comes in.

Business has been slow lately for Harry Dresden. Okay, business has been dead. Not undead - just dead. You would think Chicago would have a little more action for the only professional wizard in the phone book. But lately, Harry hasn't been able to dredge up any kind of work - magical or mundane. But just when it looks like he can't afford his next meal, a murder comes along that requires his particular brand of supernatural expertise. A brutally mutilated corpse. Strange-looking paw prints. A full moon. Take three guesses. And the first two don't count . . . Magic - it can get a guy killed

A Thrilling, cool delight

Butcher knocks it out of the park with another supernatural, noir thriller. James Marsters lends a remarkable performance to the rye wit of Mr. Dresden. A worthy sequel.

a bit much

While I enjoyed the story, it was a bit much. too much of the wolves and too much "oh how I wish". James read the story well and I was able to finish it but it lacked something I can't put my finger on.

Dresden files are Amazing

book 2... if you love urban fantasy then Dresden files are the gold standard. James Marster is the voice of Harry Dresden a character owns every bit as much as Spike from BtVS... As a mega fan of both I can honestly say... Dresden is my favorite!

Possibly Better Than The First

This was another enjoyable story and enjoyable listen. Arguably, this book was even better than the first.

Love this series

This is my second time listening to the series, and it’s much better the second time because I know the characters better. The books are all good, including this one.

Great book 👍

I am impressed with the way Jim works with existing folklore blending different creatures remaking then into something menacing.
