Publisher's summary

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is Chicago's only openly practicing wizard. He is also dead broke. His vast knowledge and magical skills are unfortunately matched by his talent for making powerful enemies and alienating friends. With little more than his integrity left, he accepts an offer of work from Lt. Karin Murphy of Chicago's Special Investigations Unit. He wants to redeem himself in Murphy's eyes and make enough money to quiet his rumbling stomach.

Soon he finds himself pinned between trigger-happy FBI agents, shape-shifiting motorcycle gang members, a threatened mobster boss, and an heir to an ancient curse along with his primal fiance. Throw in environmental activists and a pair of young werewolves in love and you have something of Fool Moon.

Good, but the series gets stronger later

Fool Moon is generally considered the weakest of the Dresden Files, and does show some flaws of an early work. The laws of magic aren't as codified, and Harry pulls some tricks that are never seen again. The book does introduce important characters, like Billy and the Alphas, and builds some over arching themes.

James Marster's narration improves over Storm Front. the characters develop more distinct voices, and I defy anyone to read the big fight at the end between Harry and <redacted> without chills as they circle and strike.

all in all, strongly recommended.

fantastic as always

Dresden always comes through for me. James Marsters ( sp?) is just perfect for Harry.

Jim Butcher was such a surprise Horror and Comedy

I normally do not like horror books. This one has so much hummer and good sense it was a pleaser to listen to.

Picking up Steam in the Series!

The first few installments of the series are rough but that's only to be expected. This one has a bit of a convoluted storyline but dont let that dissuade you from the rest of the series. This saga really picks up Steam in the book after this one but don't skip it! Jim Butcher is a master of weaving bits of information into each story that will help you to understand important aspects later on in the series.

Awesome

Would you listen to Fool Moon again? Why?

There was so much going on that I think a second listen-through wouldn't be such a bad idea. Especially with so many of the characters popping back up in later books.

What did you like best about this story?

The humor.

Everyone loves a crime solving wizard

I love these books and I love the narrator, James Marsters. There were a few words that he pronounced wrong and I suspect a dropped word here and there. Also, he has a habit of swallowing or wetting his lips right into the microphone and that can be a little annoying. But overall, I really enjoy his portrayal of Harry Dresden!

Another great Harry story

Another adventure for Harry Dresden. As before, Butcher does a great job leveraging every gumshoe trope in a way that makes for an interesting story without overdoing it. While the characters are flushing out nicely and expanding their depth from book one, Murphy is at risk of becoming too stereotypical. Her attitudes and actions bordered on unbelievable. It wasnt enough to stop me from going on to book three, but if it doesnt improve it does put the series at risk for me.
