Good fantasy story with some really great characters, however the reading was uneven and at times difficult to follow, which surprised me as it was read by the author. An example: he would end a sentence and begin the next charper in the same breath and I would be lost for a few seconds until I realized we were in a different scene. Also, I found characters' names a bit disconcerting since most of them were "Ethel" something. Fortunately Mr. Martin gave each their own "voice" in the narrative, and that made it easier to distinguish the speaker.
Loved the trolls!!
I laughed out loud while listening to this story. It is a well-written and subtly tongue-in-cheek with the names used. I look forward to more of Gary Martin's work
I am so SORRY I purchased this audio book. The narrator's voice was grating. The plot seemed quite silly, and all the characters are named Ethel-Something. Even the kingdom is named "Ethel..." I'm sorry, I just hated it. I seriously recommend you listen to the sample before buying...This is really bad....
"Written in the style and from the inspiration of The Lord of the Rings" according to the publisher. Did the publisher read either the Lord of the Rings or this book? I don't think so. The "Ethel-everything" is as annoying as everyone says. I tried to get through it but simply couldn't.
