Wonderful world-building, I wish there was more

Jim Butcher built a wonderful world full of exciting ideas and rich, complex characters. I thoroughly enjoyed all the books when I first read them and again when I listened to them. Kate Reading did a wonderful job of bringing the voices to life and being consistent with each character from book to book. This series is a definite repeater in my library.

A compulsive listen!

I enjoyed this series and listened back-to-back. Similar idea to the Eli Monpress series by Rachel Aaron.

Kate Reading Rocks

We discovered this series by looking for books narrated by Kate Reading. As always, she did a phenomenal job. The series could keep going as far as I am concerned. Very well done. I look forward to more books by Butcher that have a similar style as the Codex Alera series.

A wonderfull conclusion..

Some of the Best fantasy I have listened to in a long while. Butcher weaves an impressive yarn showing complexity and grace. Kate reads it with style. Any Dresden fans who have not found there way here should drop everything right now and start this series. Thank you Jim.

Amazing conclusion to a wonderful series!

Overall, one of my most favorite series! I cannot believe this part of Tavi's journey is over. He and the other characters will be greatly missed. A great read and one I recommend honestly.

Excellence

Any additional comments?

This was an excellent series. I search for well written concepts like this. They are hard to find. I listened to the entire series back to back and was disappointed it was over. If you like creative fantasy you will enjoy this series.

An awesome series that never stops

Would you consider the audio edition of First Lord's Fury to be better than the print version?

Never read the paperback.

What was one of the most memorable moments of First Lord's Fury?

When the Vord attacked Rieva and the fight between Invida and Attus Accutane.

Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?

My favorite character was Max and Kitai. Though all the characters were well rounded and could be real people.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Actually, all the books are. I've long series before and there will always one or two books weaker than the rest but this series was consistently good. Very few lulls and the pacing was fast and action pact when it needed to.

Any additional comments?

This is one of the best book series I've ever read. The characters are well rounded and just aren't character fodder. Even the minor characters are three dimensional. The moments that are witty ARE witty. The moments that are supposed to move you DOES move you. Originally, the only reason I got the series is because I had so many credits that I would lose so I randomly chose the first book and I'm so glad I did. The narrator Kate Reading is one of the best ones I've heard. All characters are distinct and the combination of her reading the story telling really did give me a vivid picture of the locales and people and scenes. I also love that it isn't fantasy in the traditional sense. No elves or dwarves but there are magical/supernatural elements of the story that aren't tact on or aren't a total deus ex machina. The magical/supernatural elements are weaved thoughtfully and cleverly into the story and the detail that's used to explain the world of Carnia doesn't leave you curious. All in all, as stated before, it's one of the best series I've ever read. Though Dresden Files isn't a genre I normally listen to, I'll give it a chance thanks to Jim Butcher's skills.
