Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. I have thoroughly enjoyed this whole series. My one complaint is that several of the characters were missing their usual voices. Lorelei King is an awesome narrator who brings depth and interest to each of the characters, both male and female. The voices and accents have been consistent through the whole series until this book, where they suddenly were forgotten. If you haven't followed the whole series, you may not notice but it is disconcerting when a certain characters suddenly have different voices and therefor personalities. Hence 4 stars instead of 5. I am still looking forward to the next book in the series.
Just Another Audiobook Addict! Love listening to all types of romances, but occasionally need a good Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or a book with humor!
This was another awesome addition to the Mercy Thompson series! I can never get tired of these stories, they are full of action, suspense, magic, and lots of "pack politics." I love how Adam and Mercy work together as a team, they are the perfect Alpha leaders. We are introduced to new and interesting characters.
As usual, The Gray Lords are up to their games, and Mercy and the pack find themselves in the middle of the Fae conflict, but they will not back down. They have declared to protect their territory and the boy who escaped from the Fae.
If you are a Mercy Thompson Fan, you will definitely want to add this story to your collection.
This story was well worth the credit, and the time spent listening to the story.
I am an avid listener. I listen between 75-100 hours per month on my iPhone: 60% fiction to 40% non-fiction.
This ninth installment is very well done. A plot that keeps you listening. This is a tough one to put down. There are parts of this book you will want to rewind and listen to several times in a good way. Mercedes and Adam take center stage as everyone clashes. We get to see many of our favorites as this story unfolds. Brigss finds a way to weave important contemporary messages into this supernatural narrative -- in a subtle way.
This story has a hint of romance, but is mostly action. It is fast paced and doesn't stall anywhere. Those who like supernatural will enjoy this. You will miss a great deal if you don't listen to the earlier novels. You can read this first, but you might be lost because of the many characters and the nuances as Briggs relies on the backstories of the past. Kings narration is superb.
I highly recommend this novel. I am anxious to listen to the next installment. Thumbs up and give it a read.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy, mystery, sci-fi or drama. This will make you laugh and cry and feel joy and pain. True storytellers make everything better.
Mercy is my favorite character but all of the characters are wonderfully made.
Her voices of the different characters bring them to life and help you see them clearly.
Yes, it made me laugh and cry. All of the books in this series have that effect on me.
Any of the books in this series are great but if you start with Moon Called you can see the development of all the characters from the start. I love this series and this book is a gem.
Hi my name is Marty, Im book worm from Portland Oregon. I work graveyard shifts and listen to books while I work and read comics in the day
Minor spoiler warnings.
The book begins with a lot of humor to keep the reader entertained while explaining what has been going on since the last book.
Then moves the story along with a major action scene, engaging the reader by putting characters in a high risk situation.
She ends that by introducing a new mystery that draws the reader into the core plot of the book. All the while drawing upon the major themes of her other books with out beating us over the head with it.
As far as im concerned Patricia Briggs has done this all brilliantly, this is the best job with pacing and set up I have seen her do and might just Top iron kissed and river marked as being my favourite work of hers.
with that said there are a few issues.
1: Mercy never shifts in the entire book. its a little strange and I kept waiting for it but it never came. Its one of the key aspects of Mercy's character and I feel like P.B isn't utilizing that it its full potential.
2: I was expecting Hoel (Fire dog guy, sorry I don't know how to spell his name ) to play a bigger part of the story, we got some nice interplay between him and key characters but not nearly as much as I would have liked. it makes this book feel shorter than it really is.
3: I feel like at this point a major character needs to die, that sounds harsh but we haven't had that big emotional kick yet from the series. With out consequence all the risk Mercy and the gang take lacks any weight behind it. Any time a major character is close to or near death we get a deus ex machina to revive them, this far into the series thats really starting to hurt the emotional credibility of the story as a whole. im not saying go all game of thrones on us, but if your going to have a predatory world then the good guys have to lose a few rounds at some point.
With that said I loved this book, L.k did an amazing job as usual narrating.
A lot of loose ends get tied up here and the end is a lovely, neat package of completion. While it makes me sigh with contentment to have this books end well and see my favorite characters in good places, I'm very hopeful that this doesn't suggest an end to the Mercy series.
Patricia Briggs writes with so smoothly. It's almost poetic. Great story. Love the love between Mercedes and Adam. It's great. I love that she's kickass. She's a strong woman with a man who loves her for being the way she is.
This is one of my favorite series. Briggs has created a fascinating world of magical creatures, adventure, a strong heroine and a cast of characters who are well developed, sometimes maddening but warm & like able.
This is my third time through this series and with the next new book I will be delighted to go through the entire series again. Worth a credit? YES!!
I finally picked this series back up after a 3 book break. happy I did!
"Excellent as always"
I will listen to this book again. I always listen to good books twice. I seem to gain more detail from the second listen.
Not an action sequence it was the scene when Adam and Mercy's pack are disavowed by the leader of all the Werewolf packs - by the man who raised Mercy. I was stunned as were Mercy and Adam.
I love the way Lorelei portrays Adam. Patricia has written a rounded character and Lorelei's performance helps in the development.
Lorelei Kings shows a wide selection of very stable voices an excellent narrator.
The stage is set for more stories. I love the fact that Adam and Mercy have a loving and stable marriage which strengthens the plot lines. In this story they offer protection to a child who had been abducted by the fae with consequences.
I will keep my eyes open for the next book in the series.
"Great series and narrator"
Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series is a very good read and even better when narrated by Lorelei King . BUT yet again Audible do not have the complete series on their UK site . This is unbelievably frustrating. I have e mailed them in the past but no joy . For that reason only I would hesitate to recommend this series . You'll end up frustrated too !
"A great story"
The stories of Mercedes and the werewolves have never failed to delight me. Fire Touched is good on its own merit, but will make more sense of you have read the previous books in the series. The reading worked well for me, but I only really notice if something doesn't seem right, and I didn't notice anything about the performance here at all.
I love the Mercy Thomson series every book has a great story line and awesome characters can't wait for more !!!
"Good story worth waiting for"
Had listened to all the other books while on holiday .Was impatient
To get this one, only problem now .......how long till the next book!
