Post 2020

Hearing this story post 2020 is such a weird experience. It’s surreal and captivating. A fantastic read that makes you care about the characters and makes you wonder how things could have gone wrong?

Very good at getting you to care about characters

This book is a great and unique take on the zombie genre and did an amazing job of getting me to actually care about characters in a short amount of time.

Decent premise - not so great follow through.

Story is definitely repetitive in parts. There are 2 narrators that could have each read parts instead of it mainly being 1 person doing all the reading. Paula should've done the female voices and Jesse should've done the male voices. Both are terrible at doing accents. Probably won't finish the series...I agree with others that have said this isn't really a zombie book because there are only a few scenes that actually have them.

Too Close to Home

I bought this book when it was released but never got a chance to read it. It was one of the first books I got on Audible. This is not the book for 2023. Gov. Tate is literally Trump. So while it was politically infuriating, this was SUCH a well written book. I could not stop listening!

Maybe my favorite zombie stories

These are the best narrators of the series. There’s an occasional bad accent but overall they give great emotion and enunciation.
The story is great. This is one of the only books that keeps society intact along with very realistic expectations of the zombies. The science behind it makes sense and it’s so creative. Huge fan of the writer in general, but these are well worth it once you get into the meat of the story!! I listen to the series several times a year:)

A zombie book for non-zombie readers

I am not someone that is a fan of zombie books - they have to have a lot more than zombies to hold my interest - but this is a novel about a lot more than zombies. It has a lot to say about the nature of celebrity and the sway of the media and technology in our society. It also explores family in a meaningful way. This is a writer with things to say, and the ability to put those things across in an interesting way.

My only criticism of the novel is the constant repetition of certain aspects both medical and technical. I got it the first time. The third time I'll give you, because maybe someone else missed it the first and second time, but after that it is just freaking annoying. Still, I'll recommend this book to many of my reading pals.

Kinda boring and predictable

The book started off ok, but slowly evolved into a very predictable story about espionage where the zombies were a mild inconvenience. It passed the time but I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend.
