Publisher's summary

The Earth lies shaken in the aftermath of a conspiracy. Some of the smartest minds on the planet have striven for and died in an effort to scour the skies of four vast alien satellites, but their success has brought a terrible vengeance down upon us.

While alien agents stalk the Earth, a team of exhausted scientists and military outcasts struggle to fight them among a planet on the brink - the brink of plague, the brink of war, and the brink of an invasion larger than they can possibly imagine. But they have allies. Two of the alien agents have forsaken their homes, their families, and their very species to stop the greatest act of genocide any of them has ever known. They carry with them the knowledge we need to save humanity and take us into a new and marvelous age.

But Lana and the remaining enemy agents are far from defeated. As they begin to reap havoc among the diseased and bereft, Neal, Ayala, and Barrett must find a way to achieve the impossible - by fair means or foul, they must unite the world's disparate nations. And they must do so quickly, for the Armada is fast approaching, and behind the great fires of their decelerating engines, the huge fleet is readying itself for war.

Most of the book sets the stage

Book 2 in the Fear Saga continues where book 1 left off. The two good-guy alien androids are helping Earth gain the valuable tech they’ll need to have any hope of fighting off the coming armada. Meanwhile the bad-guy androids are working hard to destroy the human population, or at least severely minimize its capability before the massive force arrives. Through subterfuge and manipulation, they have gotten Earth’s major powers to fight among themselves. Divide and conquer until the alien force arrives. And it’s going to work if Neal and his team can’t move fast enough to build the defenses they so desperately need.

It was fun in book one to see what the androids could do, their high-tech so beyond anything possible on Earth. There is a little of that here; and except for a few cameo appearances, the alien androids tend to be off-screen. Most of the book sets the stage for the coming real battle between the aliens and the Earth and the skirmishes that distract them. There are several battles, but they are not all that exciting, more like journalistic reports than first hand action.

It is certainly an entertaining book, but lacks a lot of the fresh surprises that book one introduced. The pace has slowed from a sprint to a marathon as the listener looks forward to the real action yet to come. The tech reads well, powerful and futuristic enough to stretch our imaginations, but still believable.

R.C. Bray delivers another memorable performance as the voice of the Fear Saga Series. He is just great, one of the best audio performer working today.

You are reading this because you read or listened to Fear the Sky and want to know if you should continue. Yes, of course, you should. You are in it now for the long haul, and though book 2 lacks some of the punch and surprise of the first volume, it is still entertaining. It is more about important ground work than just action. New characters have been introduced that are quite interesting and you will be looking forward to their development.

Where did all the smart people go?

1) Lana escapes and no one bothers thinking about her impending targets or even how best to track/destroy her until she starts murdering a ton of people. It's almost as if the characters completely forget about Lana.

2) You're telling me that Lana, the super smart alien AI cannot come up with a better plan to kill Neal and Madeline except going after their families? If an apple drops from a tree she would have 100 options to deal with it, but finding and killing her enemies? Nope, nothing.

3) So the Mobili have the ability to craft super powerful complex killer robots but they have absolutely no good way to track or kill them?

4) The president of the United States has secret service agents equipped with Glocks to protect him against an alien machine that survived a fight against 30 or so Navy Seals? Glocks. With no advanced systems at all? Literally the best they have are some incendiary rounds, that's it. Seriously???

5) The United States gets attacked by a terrorist in the worst attack in modern history and all of America starts falling apart eh? Did the author forget about how America responded to Pearl Harbor?

6) So Lana finally dies, thanks to a drill made especially to kill her, well drill and drill bit. Seriously? Yet no one could spare the time to come up with actual weapons that could have killed her faster? Yet later in the book Neal's forces have all sorts of crazy advanced weapons in seemingly endless supply which were made with absolutely 0 resource constants at all

7) So Neal somehow becomes Mr Political Commander Man and is now not only a shrewd diplomat, but also an amazing military commander? Zubeda goes from a spy to Neal's top ground forces commander?? And all the allied commanders just follow Neal's orders as if they don't have a chain of command???

8) So all the satellites around the globe suddenly can't spot where the Russian ground forces are? Where did all the spy satellites go?

9) So the Russians push into Hungary and Neal/Co decide to commit their entire force compliment to the attack not suspecting it could be a feint? The entire time the Obitias were coming in I kept wondering when Neal would reveal the troops he held back, but nope, Neal/Co were completely fooled by this extremely obviously feint to lure their forces away. Did they forget there were 2 agents left??

10) Badu, a 6 year old girl, not only becomes the best pilot in history but also has 0 emotion towards killing people. I mean 0 and the author keeps referring to her ability to fly and kill as if Badu is in ecstasy. That's beyond disturbing, especially considering the fact that at the end of the book she has no qualms about murdering over 100 people in order to kill the last agent.

11) The attack on China, the attack that kills over 100 people and leaves a smoking crater where once a government building stood is mind boggling. The author honestly thinks that China would not retaliate for this? Regardless of the fact that Neal has a Skom, China is not a country that would take that and say "Oh they have advanced tech, we can't win, lets just do nothing." No, China would mobilize, they would launch nukes, they would do everything in their power to kill Neal and crush his forces and no single Skom would be able to stop them (They do have billions of people you know)

12) So in Book 1 the author makes it known that tweeter communications can be tracked/picked up by the agents systems. In Book 2 that is completely forgotten by Neal as his advanced team in Russia gets killed THEN to top it all off the Chinese Agent Pay Ling (I believe, I stopped caring long ago) DOESN"T REMEMBER HE AND THE RUSSIAN AGENT USED IT TO TRACK AND FIND NEALS TEAM SO HE TALKS TO QUAVOS FOR 2 HOURS, 2 HOURS AND THEN IS SURPRISED THAT NEALS FORCES FIND HIM. I mean, *represses anger*

13) Neal threatens every world government, EVERY WORLD GOVERNMENT, by saying that he is now in complete control of the advanced tech, that anyone who attempts to stop him will be killed, that he will now claim sovereignty over parts of their own countries whenever he wants, CLAIMS SOVEREIGNTY OVER SPACE, and says that he will deny anyone who does not support him access to satellite technology (GPS would be one example of this that everyone uses everyday). Seriously? So no country on Earth is going to respond to Neals threats? Oh he has a Skom! A SKOM!!! Yeah 1 single skom, 1, those things are not invincible, certain countries already have an idea of how to defeat the advanced tech, they have a ton of nukes, and they know exactly where Neal is. Not just that but Neal (and the author) seem to forget that the resonance domes REQUIRE RESOURCES TO BUILD ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Neal has 0, let me repeat that for everyone's benefit, NEAL HAS NO RESOURCES! NONE! His only potential Ally is Japan and you really think if every country in the world told Japan not to deal with Neal they wouldn't listen?

I have absolutely no idea what the author was thinking when he wrote this book. I liked book 1, it got a bit tedious at times, but overall the story was interesting and I wanted to see where Neal/Co would go. I liked Neal as a character in book 1, yet in book 2 I really would not support him, he's turned into a despot tyrant dictator who believes the end justifies the means. He's become everything the Mobili are, quite frankly given John's and Quavos's characters in book 1 (especially Quavos), I think they would turn on Neal and I think Neal would not find as much support as he thinks given the fact he's essentially declaring war on every nation in the world.

I cannot recommend this book and I will certainly not be buying book 3. I have no idea how this book has such a high rating and I cannot believe that the majority of those ratings are from thinking human beings.

Spectacular

After I listened to fear the sky I eagerly checked audible every week to see when this boom would be available. Now after having listened to it nearly a year after fear the sky I have to say it was well worth the wait. Fear the survivors is deep, complex, and never seases to surprise. Its full of twists and turns that will keep you on edge until the very last second. Make sure you clear your schedule and buy lots of coffee because you wont even want to sleep once this book wraps is midnight black hands around your throat and burrows its way into your skull.

honestly underwhelmed

after being amazed by the first book in this series and waiting a year for this but one I must say I was mostly disappointed. I think the best thing about the first book was the sense of humanity being overwhelmingly overmatched and outgunned but that has more or less changed in this book thanks to lots of foggy science. it really got a bit aggravating to listen to hours of science fiction that was so far fictional as to not even have any real correlation within today's scientific world. trying to explain spacecraft and weaponry that sound about as aerodynamic as a brick is one thing, but in the words of my friend, "at least make that shit sound real". The author completely levels the playing field between the opposing forces and then sort of tilts the story at whim to suite his needs, often introducing completely new crap with minimal explanation of its function design and purpose; preferring to try and awe us with its vague awesomeness. the action scenes were still fairly decent but they should be since the author devoted so much attention to them. I'll probably get the third book but only on the merits of the first.

Stunning

After reading the first book, I thought that it would be difficult to keep up the momentum in the second. However, Stephen Moss does not disappoint. In fact, Fear the Survivors has the potential to even surpass the first installment. Great read. 👍

Excellent scifi series, look forward to anything else this author does!

Well written and organized, wish I hadn't read the books description on audible/Amazon as it contains spoilers.

I find the authors stereotyping offensive

I find the author's stereotyping of people who live in the south as being "moronic" 'fat' "imbeciles" quite offensive. Clearly he is small minded and childish.

Not as good as the first one

I found myself listening to the book and really not caring what happened to the characters. All the main people are now cyborgs and assholes so I’m deleting this book and returning book three. The only good thing about this book was R C Bray.

Slower than the first, but no less enjoyable.

Fear The Survivors is a very enjoyable book, the characters are vivid and realistic. In fact, the only thing I dislike about the book and its series, is how it has tainted the name Lana. There are some things to keep in mind, but these are merely potholes and do not obstruct enjoyment from the series. It is just better to know they are there so that you can deal with them.

This book is very pronoun heavy, more so than the first. A character known by two names is now known by three. A lot of new characters are also established, and a lot of their names are not native English names. Which is fine of course, but if you have trouble with names as I do, you will need to take special care in remembering who is who.

As mentioned in the title, the book is fairly slow. There are a lot of action scenes, but the main focus of the book is very similar to segments of the first where the scientists came together in order to find the fallen meteor in the Indian ocean. However, in seemingly typical Moss fashion, the slow parts are equally as important, if not more so to pay attention to than the fast paced parts.

It is also an imaginative book, requiring you to picture bizarre and unorthodox scenarios, especially when it comes to flight and weaponry.

Survivors is a very close second in terms of enjoyment when compared to the first. A lot of the book is setup for the third and final instalment which I have already pre-ordered and am waiting for with anticipation. What I have listed are not flaws, they are things I feel you should be aware of as a listener in order to fully appreciate the book to its entirety.
