Such Poor Male Narration

These are real gems of SF. No, they are not the only gems, but gems nonetheless. However, the male narration is HORRIBLE. As another reader said: "The quality of the sound on the narration is poor and the most commonly used narrator has an almost robotic monotone voice." I wish I could specify which male narrator, but cannot. What a waste. Audible, please re-release this book with a competent narrator - please.

Fine stories, underwhelming cast.

I found the stories entertaining. I believe most of them were average. A few were great. I did not enjoy the cast performance. I simply am not a fan of most of the speech patterns and intonations. Normally I would say here that I would easily recommend the book for you to listen to. I think it might be worth your time because of the number of stories. I am conflicted about recommending it. I'll say at least, if you do purchase it, I hope you like the voice actors more then I do.

half a level above complete boredom

I downloaded this for a 17-hour drive. I was hoping to be mildly entertained, at least enough to stay awake, but all but one or two of these stories pretty much put me to sleep. Maybe sci-fi just doesn't translate well to audiobook, but I can't believe these banal stories actually got published.

These are indeed old favorites-- classics that

defined the genre. There is fantasy here, too, but it is all wrapped in sf.

I Guess Narrators Do Make a Difference

Would you consider the audio edition of Favorite Science Fiction Stories, Volume 1 to be better than the print version?

Yes

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?

Anyone, the main narrator is horrible monotonated and sounds the same in EVERY story!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

N/A

Any additional comments?

The old time stories are great still!

Mid century pulp stories!

So much fun! Incredible trip through 1940s-60s science fiction from pulp magazines. Loved every story and I never say that. Great way to relive the history of sci fi

I don't usually do this

but to keep others from making the mistake of buying this. The narration is horrible. Its so bad as to kill the otherwise excellent stories. The is nothing good to say about it. Avoid!

awful, simply awful

The stories are lame, pretty well all of them. There are some great classic sf yarns, however they are not to be found in this collection.

Some good stories

Its all a matter of taste. I love short stories, SF and older ones too. But there are other collections that overall I enjoyed much more. None of them were bad or poor. The narrators were very good and understandable.
