Charm Livingston's life is hell, literally. As a vengeance demon, she resides in the underworld until a furious soul calls upon her to exact revenge in exchange for 10 years in hell. Being a demon is bad enough, but as the daughter of the devil himself she has very little wiggle room for escape. And escaping is all she's ever dreamed of, leaving the bowels of hell and becoming human is the one dream she knows she cannot have... or can she?
When a man is murdered by one of her fellow demons, the now grieving fiancé calls upon Charm for help. Charm's psychometric power helps her replay the events leading up to the man's death. In the midst of arranging justice for her client she meets the angel that was the killer's target. He's injured and she saves his life, despite the repercussions her actions could have on her own soul. Daddy dearest wants the angel dead, and she derails the devil's plans.
In return, the angel agrees to help Charm with her greatest wish, except that ascension isn't going to be easy. She'll need to pass through the 13 levels of the underworld by passing 13 tests in order to overcome the realm of purgatory and reach the Hall of Akashic Records where her soul can be reborn.

Thank You Audiobookblast(dot) com
I am a very eclectic reader. I read non-fiction as well as fiction. I am curious about everything, except math.
Those of us of a certain age remember Flip Wilson’s character Geraldine saying “The Devil made me do it” as justification for whatever mess she was in. When the AudioBlast newsletter featured “Father Made Me Do It” I was definitely interested. I read the synopsis and listened to the sample then requested a free review copy.
“Father Made Me Do It” is the first book in a new series about Lucifer’s daughter, Charm. Note: Most of Lucifer’s children have very interesting names like “Charm” or “Lovely”. Charm is an unhappy demon. She wants to be human. In order to do so she must complete challenges (reminding me of the Herculean Labors) to complete her ascension to the human world. Charm will need help to accomplish her goal. She must enlist the aid of her friends from hell (they live in hell but they are rather good friends) and accept, grudgingly the help of an angel. Oh, the angel happens to be hot and they have a very strong mutual attraction.
The story was very well written. It is told from Charm’s point of view. One of the first things you learn about Charm is that she is not the stereotypical demon. She is not happy to be in hell but as she states, “Eternity is slightly bearable when you have friends like mine.” Change the word eternity to life and you have a statement that all of us can relate to. Charm’s voice is strong and is never lost even when dealing with her domineering father. Lucifer as a father, literally the father from hell, is wickedly delightful as a character. The interactions between Charm and her father had a natural cadence. Each time they spoke or Charm related part of her life with him, you came to understand both of them better.
“Father Made Me Do It” was very original. The organization and hierarchy of hell, the residents (willing and otherwise), and the demon’s individual jobs were all presented in a unique way. Imagine demons punching a timeclock and having trade unions. Every aspect of the story, from Charm herself, to the main plot, were well written.
The narration by Rebecca Roberts was first rate. She conveys Charm’s attitude with every word. Ms. Roberts can convey cynicism, rebellion, frustration and infatuation in very believable tones. I had no trouble understanding Charm’s feelings at any point in the story because Ms. Roberts did such a fine job of communicating them to me. The production values were very good. The sound was clear. I did not find one error (mispronounced word, repeated words, intrusive sound or throat clearing) in this recording. It really was very well done.
“Father Made Me Do It” is the first book in a series called “Demon Ascension”. I am hoping that the author, Jami Brumfield, used Rebecca Roberts to narrate the entire series. Ms. Roberts has become Charm’s voice for me. I cannot imagine anyone else narrating.
I enjoyed “Father Made Me Do It” as an audiobook so much I purchased the Kindle version. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Hell has never been so much fun.
This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.
Loved the story. The author brought about some fun and new ideas of what 'hell' is supposed to look like...from a demon's point of view. The writing was easy to follow and loved the story line. Feels like this one ended too soon, but, then again it is just 'Book 1'. Once again, Rebecca Roberts (one of my favorite narrators) shined through in her narration of the story. With her reading, I feel like I'm right there in the midst of it all and seeing it first hand. Her ability to keep me focused during the narration and not just during the conversations is special indeed. All in all, I am looking forward to listening to the next book in the series!! Definitely recommend this to everyone.
I received this audio book as a gift in exchange for a honest and unbiased review. Charm Livingston's father runs the underworld. More than anything Charm just wants to be a normal person. Read along with this fun paranormal story as Charm bends over backwards trying to be good. This book is fun, exciting and humorous too!
The author, Jami Brumfield did a good job writing this book. I like her sense of humor and wit as it shows throughout the book. Hell doesn't always have to be a bad place! The narrator, Rebecca Roberts did a good job delivering this story to us flawlessly with her multiple voices. Great job to both of you!
Is it bad that I loved the idea of Charm's rebellion against her father??? Then add on top the whole Angel/ Demon/ paranormal realms info...
EVERYTHING!! I was busy crafting, but found myself stopping throughout the narration to hear parts.
I haven't listened to any of Rebbecca's previous performances, so I can't honestly compare.
I laughed in a few places, but I didn't cry... that may differ if I was to read the book too.
I'm not sure why I haven't read this book, but having listened to it... I feel I must & soon, just so I can get a feel for the characters more. I can't wait to read/listen to what comes next in this series.
Yes I would recommend this audio. As I liked Rebecca Roberts narration and it was funny and entertaining
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to so many unique characters who were exciting and hilarious
I haven't listened to any of Rebecca Roberts narration before, but she was thoroughly entertaining and had a marvellous range.
I listened to it in segments as it enhanced my listening pleasure
I really liked the combination of Rebecca Roberts marvellous narration and Jami Brumfield's entertaining story
When I discovered Audible it was like discovering love :-) I love receiving codes and in return I post reviews. Wife, and mom of two,
I enjoyed this story and I couldn't stop listening to Father Made Me Do It until the story ended. think Jami has created a great story, filled with intrigue, surprises, love, and even compassion in this unique story of demons. I especially liked Charm Livingston who happens to be a Vengeance Demon. I'll be looking for more in this new series, Demon Ascension. Sorry, I won't be giving away any spoilers here. I can only mention that this is a great story and I highly recommend that you get this audio as soon as you can, you won't regret it.
Another great narration by Rebecca Roberts. I thought it was narrated extremely well. I felt she brought this story to life and it was like I was watching it unfold as my eyes were closed and hearing this story. Rebecca didn't have any problems distinguishing accents and voices and I didn't have any problems identifying each character throughout this story. Overall, I give this a perfect 5 star rating!
Yes, It has a lot of humor weaved into a mystery. There are a lot of interesting characters that will probably be impotent in later books.
Faris (the genie) was really funny and I’d like to see more of him. I also liked how one of Charm‘s friends reminded me of Anya from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
This book wasn't really long enough for the kind of depth I crave and seek out especially in my audiobooks, but it WAS a fun read. It was full of supernatural creatures and the author came up with a very playful non scary way to point hell.
Rebecca Roberts did an excellent job as the narrator , I loved the voice she used for the main character, Charm.
I give this book an overall 4 stars instead of 3 because of the awesome narrator!
