Publisher's summary

Patricia Briggs' Alpha and Omega series - set in a world of shifting shapes, loyalty, and passion - brings werewolves out of the darkness and into a society in which fear and prejudice could make the hunters prey....

They say opposites attract. And in the case of werewolves Anna Latham and Charles Cornick, they mate. The son - and enforcer - of the leader of the North American werewolves, Charles is a dominant alpha, while Anna, an omega, has the rare ability to calm others of her kind.

Now that the werewolves have revealed themselves to humans, they can't afford any bad publicity. Infractions that could have been overlooked in the past must now be punished, and the strain of doing his father's dirty work is taking a toll on Charles.

Nevertheless, Charles and Anna are sent to Boston when the FBI requests the pack's help on a local serial killer case. They quickly realize that not only the last two victims were werewolves - all of them were. Someone is targeting their kind. And now Anna and Charles have put themselves right in the killer's sights....

Gets better and better

I’m always impressed with Patty’s ability to build her characters and have them evolve with every new experience, trial, or failure. This book is a testament to that. Anna continues to learn and grow from her past traumas and Charles is doing the same. Also, I enjoy the look into Bran that this series allows the reader, he is very interesting indeed. Love this book.

I rarely write reviews because views & opinions change over time whilst books stay the same.

This is a multi-reread for me yet it is still current. This particular book reflects so much of what was wrong yesterday and still is today. Fear, encouraged ignorance, privilege, bigotry, sexism, and simmering outrage waiting to boil over.

Stories get better and better

I've followed this series and "Mercy Thompson" since their beginnings. The story in this third book of "Alpha and Omega" is the best so far in this series. Although I did figure out who was instigating the honorable serial killings, it did turn out more complicated than I thought. There will be a 4th book in this series, at least that is the way the ending of this book left me feeling. It sets the supernatural world on it's ear at the end and there just may be a holy war between humans and supernaturals. I'm sure Ms Briggs will do us proud.

Another Winner!!

I really loved this book. I'm totally addicted to the Mercy Thompson Series and Alpha and Omega is no disappointment either. With all of Brigg's books that I lhave read and listened to 99% of the content is ok for my kids to hear too if i want to listen over the speaker system. Fair Game is a lot grittier than the other two books in the series and there are only a few instances in Mercy's Series that I don't allow my kids to hear.
The story is dead on, nothing disappointed me here. One thing to note is there is explicit sex in this book. So if you're going to listen be careful when and where so your kids don't get an early education.
Holter Graham is an excellent narrator. The only thing that threw me was his "Adam" voice. But that was just because I am so used to King's voice for Adam.
If you're a Brigg's fan you won't be disappointed.

Best book in the series so far!

Fair Game had a little bit different feel that the last two books since the POV included someone that was not Anna or Charles. The book actually starts out in the POV of a little girl that we later see as the grown FBI agent that Anna and Charles is partnered with to solve a serial killer case.

There has been some time between the ending of Hunting Ground and Fair Game. Briggs doesn’t come out and give us an exact time frame but it’s at least around a year, maybe even more. Anna makes reference to it being several months since Charles has touched her and the evens with the werewolves coming out to the public are parallel to the timing in the ending River Marked, in the Mercy Thompson series.

After the coming out of the werewolves Bran has been focusing on keeping all the packs under a tight leash so as not to scare the humans. This means Charles’ job as his enforcer has picked up and Charles has become somewhat depressed at all the killing his has to do. He is haunted by the ghosts of the wolves he has killed and is keeping Anna away to keep her safe from them and not wanting her to see him as a monster.

Because of the depression that Charles is in, Anna goes to Bran for help. She tries to talk sense into the old wolf but he knows what’s best for the good of all the wolves and tells her to grow up. But Anna finds the means to finally get through to Bran and he sends her and Charles to Boston to help out with a serial killer case that might have some supe connections.

Helping with the case gives Charles and brother wolf the hunt they need but without being the “monster” that Charles is starting to feel like.

Through out Fair Game Charles and Anna work on the case and on their broken bond and when it’s over the case is solved and the bond is on it’s way to getting stronger.

Even thought the couple has been together since almost the first time they meet, Briggs makes them work for their HEA. Both are damaged in their own way but they are tough and loyal and truly love each other. Yeah the story is about fictional creatures like werewolves but if you put that aside, you can see the truth in their relationship. It’s hard to be married and love someone but it’s worth the everyday fight to keep it together when it’s real.

I so want to spoil you about the ending, it was really good. But let me just say that there is an event that takes place that has changed Briggs’ worlds. It will not doubt show up in Mercy’s books too. It’s that big! Can’t wait to see what both series bring in the future.

Perfection

Loved the story and narrator. There was just the right blend of everything. I love the growth in Charles and Anna over the course of the series. Do yourself a favor and start with the first novella and move forward. It's not necessary as these are stand alone books but it will enrich your experience.

Deeper than usual

I love when an author is able to once in awhile dive deeper into main characters struggles and background without what I despise is having them shut down completely and am thankful that didn't happen.
I hope we continue to see Charles & Anna's struggles find positive solutions, and the story doesn't lose its' charm and wit along the way - so far that hasn't happened : )

Transitions!

Love the stories. And the narrator is very good, keeping voices of myriad characters distinct and believable. What he does not do, however, is pause between changes of scene - this is the third book in this series by him, and I find myself frequently hitting the backward skip button because of this mannerism.
