Publisher's summary

WHO WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH?

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A thief, a candlemaker, an ex-mercenary, and a pig farmer walk into a trap…and what happens to them is no joke. When Riyria is hired to retrieve a jester’s treasure, Royce and Hadrian must match wits with a dwarf who proves to be anything but a fool. Difficult choices will need to be made, and in the end those who laugh last do so because they are the only ones to survive.

This is a standalone short story of 7,200 words. No prior knowledge of The Riyria Revelations or The Riyria Chronicles is required to enjoy it to its fullest, making this a perfect introduction for new readers or a chance for Riyria veterans to spend a little more time with old friends. The Jester is a story of adventure, bonds of friendship, and a recognition that the choices we make dictates the future we find.

Packs a punch in an hour.

I have Age of Myth that I got from New York Comic Con 2017. I haven't read it yet. Right now I am trying to get through standalone stories on the TBR before diving into the epic sci-fi and fantasy series.

Audible sent me a quiz with 3 questions:
1) You’re in a new bookstore, heading for your favorite section.

Of course, it's... *Sci-fi/fantasy* or mystery/thriller or romance or the coffee shop.

2) Now you're at your favorite movie theater.

It's a... lively multiplex or a *cozy single screen theatre.*

3)You open your Audible app.

You're happy to see... *a listen to finish in one afternoon* or a listen to enjoy over several days.

And they picked this book. It was only an hour, free, and TGR narrates (I love his voice), so I got it.

It's a short story off-shoot of The Riyria Chronicles but also works as a standalone. Having never read any of those books I can say I loved this. It packed a punch in one hour. I liked the world building/dwarf history. I liked the partnership between Royce and Hadrian. I loved the quest with the shady characters and I loved the riddle.

I've got to add The Riyria Chronicles to my wish list.

5 out of 5 Riddles.

Sucked right into the story!

Where does FREE: The Jester (A Riyria Chronicles Tale) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a short, free book that accompanied me on a jog. I had no previous knowledge of the world or background story of the characters, but it was still so very enjoyable.

It certainly made me eager to try more books from the author. And kudos to the narrator, he makes great voices!

Give it a try and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Easy to follow without having read other books

I loved the narrator's smooth delivery and character voices. Very professionally done. The story itself was essentially like an adult morality tale or fable, but it was enjoyable and easy to follow along with despite never having read anything else by this author.
