C.J. Cherryh's second trilogy set in her Foreigner Universe comes to a thrilling conclusion with Explorer. The final installment to this sequence of the Hugo Award-winning author's most successful series, Explorer follows a human delegate trapped in a distant star system facing a potentially bellicose alien ship.

I can find a book to love in any genre -- a beautifully written classic, an interesting mystery or sci-fi, a trashy romance. Bring it!
STORY (science fiction) - If you're looking for a lengthy sci-fi series to really sink your teeth into, look no longer. This one is amazing! But you won't find tons of space battles or action heroes. Yes, there are ships, stations, aliens, good guys and bad guys, but most of the story involves a crazy web of problems between alien species that Bren Cameron (human negotiator/translator) must solve. There is so much going on that to even attempt to summarize it would be unfair. Suffice to say it's imaginative, complicated and very tense from beginning to end!! As a listener who has listened to over 300 books as of this writing, I can absolutely say that this series ranks above all the others as to originality.
PERFORMANCE - Wonderful performance. Multiple characters have distinguishable voices. Daniel Thomas May does a great job.
OVERALL - If you like to think and figure out how to solve difficult situations, you will love this series. Not a boring moment. There is no sex, cursing or brutal violence. I'd recommend starting with the first book, as there is lots of history and special language that you will only understand if you start from the beginning. It will be a time investment and the first couple books aren't quite as exciting, but when the series gets into full swing it's absolutely awesome!
1*=I didn't like it..... 2*=It was OK...... 3*=It was good but I will never read it again.......... 4*=Maybe I will read it again in the future.............. 5*=I will definitely read it again(maybe more than once)
It's time for action.
The time of lies have passed, it's time for the hard truth!!!!!
Time to answer questions.
The perfect ending of the second sequence!!!
I hope soon, I'll be able to get the rest of the series narrated by Daniel Thomas May,
Perfect voice for this series.
I've waited until the 6th book in Cherryh's series before writing a review. I've enjoyed the two sequences, especially this conclusion to the second series, very much. I look forward to continuing with the 3rd sequence soon. Bren Cameron continues to be the main focus in the story and must rely on everything that he has learned and has become to save the day. The introduction of the young Atevi ruler in waiting is also especially well done. The story is much more action packed and intense than the other two in this sequence, not that they were bad, just that this one is so much better. May does such a good narrating this series that I clearly identify his voice characterizations with each character, all clearly distinctive.
Plenty of intrigue, further exploration of the different cultures, and the building relationship between the humans and the Atevi's. This series builds slowly, which may not be for everyone. I, for one, enjoy the pace very much. I highly recommend this series very much.
It's About Time.
Ilisidi and Bren Cameron. Illisidi comes into her own in this story, showing how life experience can very often save a potentially fatal situation, and Bren comes through with his ability to finesse communications between differing species.
Only in other books of this series and every one of them was perfectly read by Daniel Thomas May.
In a time where being old is akin to being superfluous and powerless, it's a great pleasure to remember what role our most life-experienced members of society have to offer those just getting their start. This story brings Bren, and the Atevi through perilous times and circumstance based on the actions of the youngest and eldest members of their society. A story of self-discipline, loyalty and open-mindedness that can't be put down until the end.
Explorer is book three in the second trilogy of Foreigner. In which Bren goes to space and finds new opportunities to exercise his skills. He finds, however that his own species presents the greatest challenge
I can't speak highly enough of the amazing writing of CJ Cherryh. Incredibly detailed and mesmerising. Wonderful characters and intelligent story.
All of these things are only enhanced by the magnificent narration by Daniel Thomas May - he is simply superb.
I am a Maintenance Manager. Father of Six, and have 15 Grandchildren. Everyone loves a good story. I particularly like Si-Fi.
I like this book a lot, it appeals to a sense of adventure the wish that people who try to get along will actually come out on top. I like the interaction between the different aliens.
I very much honor the writer and reader for their excellent efforts as I would expect them to do, and to use favorable numbers in doing so.
Thanks Audible for your continued support of "This Week in Tech" over at TWiT.tv
This is the last book in the sequence but the story goes on and in the end you will see there is something going on on the planet that must be figured out.
These books have been going pretty good so far.
