Publisher's summary

Hostile in ways that a surface-dweller could never know, the tunnel-mazes of the Underdark challenge all who tread there. Among these souls are Drizzt Do'Urden and his magical cat, Guenhwyvar.

Exiled from his drow homeland, Drizzt must fight for a new home in the boundless labyrinth. Meanwhile, he must watch for signs of pursuit - for the dark elves are not a forgiving race.

Looks like I'll be staying for the long haul...

New to series, but becoming a big fan. Detailed and intricate sculpted world. Glad to see much more in the series and even happier to see Mr Bevine stayed for almost all. Well done sirs.

Outstanding

I am no avid reader by any means but so far these books have really reeled me in. I would recommend this book and the others to anyone with admiration of anything related to Forgotten Realms or the fantasy genre.

A short and fairly linear story

While overall a decent story, the lack of depth and length makes for it to be unsatisfying. The story is interesting enough to hold the reader and the characters development is enjoyable. The biggest issue is the story feels like someone turned a list of bullet points into a story. Every problem encountered by the characters is resolved quickly with almost no long lasting consequences except for the one over arching problem. I’m getting the feeling this entire trilogy could have easily been a single longer book comparable to most high quality fantasy authors but this series so far seem so lackluster in comparison

An Action-Packed Read

The second book in this trilogy picks up virtually right where the first one left off. Although 10 years have elapsed in the interim, little has changed except that Drizzt has been surviving on his own and has grown even harder and tougher.

This book had a good mix of action and character development. While the plot didn't introduce much in the way of new or unexpected ideas, it still kept me listening without getting boring. Personally though, I didn't care too much to hear anymore about the Drow still living back in Drizzt's homeland. Since this series is my introduction to the whole Forgotten Realms world, I wanted to see Drizzt make it on his own in new environments, discovering things along with him. The snaps back to Menzoberranzan were therefore unwanted and jolting. I understand though that most of the books happen on the surface, and that this series was written later specifically to detail Drizzt's former life. To that extent I think it accomplishes its task well, and achieves some nicely satisfying moments as well. It's not epic fantasy or anything, but it's a good diversion of a story.

Okay, I am hooked!

What made the experience of listening to Exile the most enjoyable?

Trials and tribulations. Standing on your beliefs yet recognizing you need companionship.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Exile?

Going to the gnomes and being accepted.

What does Victor Bevine bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is a good narrator. I have come to enjoy the audible books more than just reading as it comes to life for me.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just enjoyed the bonding of different species and their loyalties.

Any additional comments?

One gripe I have is the volume. It goes up and down a lot. I have to keep adjusting the volume and it is annoying. Not to mention cumbersome when I am driving down the road.

great epic world

the depth of the characters and world make this an enjoyable read
you learn to love characters and hate others
you can feel the desolation and fear in the wild and the heart warming struggles that face drizzt as he finds and loses companions

I look forward to the next book

Another fantastic tale!

What made the experience of listening to Exile the most enjoyable?

The action and details in the fighting.

Have you listened to any of Victor Bevine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listed to many and this one is great. He is incredible at voicing different characters in a believable manner.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

His father...that's all I will say so there is no spoiling.

Any additional comments?

The stories get better and better. I took a while for me to start writing reviews (I am now on book 23). I'm addicted! It's really impressive how well of a story teller R.A Salvatore is. All of his books have really incredible moments. Victor really brings the characters to life.
