Publisher's summary

The fourth novel in Peter Clines' best-selling Ex series.

When he’s awake, George Bailey is just an ordinary man. Five days a week he coaxes his old Hyundai to life, curses the Los Angeles traffic, and clocks in at his job as a handyman at the local college. But when he sleeps, George dreams of something more. George dreams of flying. He dreams of fighting monsters. He dreams of a man made of pure lightning, an armored robot, a giant in an army uniform, a beautiful woman who moves like a ninja.

Then one day as he’s walking from one fix-it job to the next, a pale girl in a wheelchair tells George of another world, one in which civilization fell to a plague that animates the dead…and in which George is no longer a glorified janitor, but one of humanity’s last heroes. Her tale sounds like madness, of course. But as George’s dreams and his waking life begin bleeding together, he starts to wonder - which is the real world, and which is just fantasy?

its pretty good

the first you have to sloughed through. Its a lot of set up. Once you get past that there is a lot of action and fun bits.

A great twist with an awesome set of Heros

If you like heros
and Zombies here is your wish. The best book using the type of fiction available

Disappointing interlude

The author has been self indulgent and lost what is great about this series. The first half of the book is far too slow paced and boring

Hadn't read the others but still enjoyed it

In hindsight, I should have started with book one. But there's enough slow reveal that I think I caught up with what was going on. It was an interesting premise (as usual with Peter Clines), and it was well executed. Made me want to go back and read the other books in the series.

It was a good effort but came off poorly

The stories an interesting concept but the bleeding of two worlds was kind of tedious, want to get past it. What was really offputting to me was the changing of multiple characters voices and a cut of the other voice actors I can’t for sure say it would’ve been better with those things but it kept pulling me away from the story not being able to make peace with how those characters sound now it took me a while.

good story but different voices hurt continuity

Previous stories have changed the pronunciation of certain names, but this one featuring only one original voice took away from the overall narrative

Good series! onto the next one!

I really like the characters especially Saint George zap and Cerberus. the loss of memory story was a little strange but still overall enjoyable.

Worth the listen

This is the black sheep of the series. It's still about the same characters, but the setting is so different for most of the book that I was debating on skipping it. I'm glad I listened to it, though if I do go back to this series again at some point I may skip it a second time around. Worth the listen once, if only to see how the characters react to this new setting they find themselves in.

The voice acting was good, but they only had one narrator. Took me a bit to get used to the different voices for certain characters.
