Publisher's summary

Stealth. Gorgon. Regenerator. Cerberus. Zzzap. The Mighty Dragon. They were heroes. Vigilantes. Crusaders for justice, using their superhuman abilites to make Los Angeles a better place. Then the plague of living death spread around the globe. Despite the best efforts of the superheroes, the police, and the military, the hungry corpses rose up and overwhelmed the country. The population was decimated, heroes fell, and the city of angels was left a desolate zombie wasteland like so many others.

Now, a year later, the Mighty Dragon and his companions must overcome their differences and recover from their own scars to protect the thousands of survivors sheltered in their film studio-turned-fortress, the Mount. The heroes lead teams out to scavenge supplies, keep the peace within the walls of their home, and try to be the symbols the survivors so desperately need. For while the ex-humans walk the streets night and day, they are not the only threat left in the world, and the people of the Mount are not the only survivors left in Los Angeles. Across the city, another group has grown and gained power. And they are not heroes.

Listened to this after "14", did not compare

Would you try another book from Peter Clines and/or Jay Snyder and Khristine Hvam ?

Yes but not another in the Ex-heroes series. Narration was good but the story did not seem as personal as "14".

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Yikes, I don't even remember..... That can't be good, can it?

Have you listened to any of Jay Snyder and Khristine Hvam ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to them before but would look for them now, the did a pretty fine job.

Was Ex-Heroes worth the listening time?

Ehhhhhh, yeah?

Any additional comments?

Peter Cline can really bring it on character development and writing a page burning page turner. This just isn't the one.

Superheroes and Zombies

This was my first foray into Peter Clines' works, and it was better than expected. Set in a world where super-powered humans appear just shortly before the beginning of a zombie apocalypse, the remaining population struggles to survive in this hellish new world. The writing is fun and the narration is perfect. It's a great novel, and it lead me down the path of reading everything else by Clines.

Heroes we can really root for....

So happy to find my favorite zombie book on Audible! The voice actors are pretty close to sounding like these characters do in my head when I read the book. It's really cool hearing this come to life. What a fun story, with heroes that are actually "heroic," the way comic book heroes used to be. I often find that post-apocalyptic stories are too cynical and bleak for my taste, but this one is actually kind of hopeful...the sort of story you want to read all over again after you finish it.

Good listen, I liked it!

A different twist in the zombie world, I liked it. A little hard to follow sometimes, but the voices and the stories are good.
It's worth your time and money, if you like a little "super" in your zombies ;)
The second part of the book is a 5 star, it's just a little hard to get into in the beginning.

Jay Snyder was born to tell zombie stories!

I really enjoyed this!

Would you consider the audio edition of Ex-Heroes to be better than the print version?

Always is....I only listened though!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ex-Heroes?

When we learned about Regenerators wife....sad....its how this all started....

What does Jay Snyder and Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

the characters and humor...they were both fabulous!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The world as we know it is no more...

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this story...it was like a comic book being acted out for you...and YES I will be reading #2!

Ex-Heroes is a pleasure well worth the guilt

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I didn't hold out much hope that this would be anything other than a marginally okay book. I was happy to be wrong about Ex-Heroes. This campy zombocalyptic tale will suck you in when you least expect it. I was a huge fan of comics when I was younger so I suppose that has a lot to do with my love of this story. I would recommend this to any fan of the horror and comic genres!

great performance mediocre story

The characters were ok, but the plotline and the decisions made by characters were weak. they went through a prolonged and costly fight scene when they had a character that could have resolved the conflict in a second. neber giving an explanation why he didn't. the performance was top notch, it was the only reason I could make it through the story. the concept of the word was very good, I had high hopes going into this book.

Narrator

The main narrator is terrific. However, I dont know if it's just me, but the some of the female voices are just TERRIBLE. There is one in particular that I found myself impersonating in the car. It drove me nuts.

Heros Meet Zombies!

It is great comic book hero, meeting undead. Something that is new and original. Being a fan of both, I enjoyed it, and will miss it now that it is gone. I ordered book 2 before I was out of the first chapters of book 1.

Even worthy of a re-read, and I dont do that oftain!

Started for me as a Joke and then I got serious

Alright, So Zombie Superhero Apoc. Sounds crazy, silly book someone wrote just to write and get published right? I read Peter Clines 14 before this and Have so far been impressed with his work so I decided to give this a shot not knowing if it would be any good. This book is impressive and the characters are believable and very human. I liked the then and now chapter concept basically not inundating you with information either right up from or at the middle taking a basic sidetrack. This was just the right amount of information at the right times. And absolute must read if you love unique Superheroes, and like a zombie book its the best of both worlds.
