Publisher's summary

"All of us try to cheat death. I was just better prepared to do it than most folks."In the years since the wave of living death swept the globe, St George and his fellow heroes haven't just kept Los Angeles' last humans alive - they've created a real community, a bustling town that's spreading beyond its original walls and swelling with new refugees. But now one of the heroes, perhaps the most powerful among them, seems to be losing his mind. The implacable enemy known as Legion has found terrifying new ways of using zombies as pawns in his attacks. And outside the Mount, something ancient and monstrous is hell-bent on revenge. As Peter Clines weaves these elements together in yet another masterful, shocking climax, St. George, Stealth, Captain Freedom, and the rest of the heroes find that even in a city overrun by millions of ex-humans... there's more than one way to come back from the dead.

Best of the series, bad editing was distracting

I really like the Ex's series for pure thoughtless entertainment value -- superheroes AND zombies, it's a geek dream! -- and the third book proved to be my favorite so far.

However, the audiobook was obviously a rush job as the editing was no where near as good as the previous two. Numorous time during the listen, the wrong character would speak, and at least twice lines were duplicated. The flaws distracted from a cool story enough to be a little irritating.

Fun Book!

The heroes are back fighting a new threat to The Mount this time. Part supernatural, part zombie, part superhero book “Ex-Communication” delivers on all three fronts. I’ll be honest, if you’re looking for a literary classic keep looking but if you’re looking for a story full of action and adventure and some witty banter this is a good choice.

The narration is great the production and multiple voices really help bring the story to life.

Two Amazing side stories really prop the book up

Maxwell Hale, perhaps the most interesting character in the series has returned, accompanied by the Reaver-lord, Cairax Murrain. I was getting quite fed up of the Stealth & St George show, so Hale was a very welcome change of pace. I actually enjoyed his back story more than I did the central narrative.

There is also a brand new character thrown into the mix and her introduction chapter is nothing short of amazing.

Together these two characters make the book something really special for me - I've read it at least 3 times already. I'm impressed that Clines has managed to keep this trope running for so long while keeping each book fresh.

I do recommend.

Another solid entry

It's a series about superheroes fighting zombies... Interestingly the quality of writing raises it above its own premise. Characters are well thought out and engaging and each book has a solid story with a few nice twists and tension.

This book is as good as the others so if you enjoyed them then keep going with this. The growing cast of characters are handled well with enough time given to almost everyone.

I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Good and solid

This was another entertaining book by Clines. This ongoing title has yet to disappoint. The narrators are very solid in there delivery, which helped make the book that more enjoyable. Can't wait to read the next book and will be a little disappointed when it comes to an end.

Nothing like a good zombie apocalipse

As the previous two books there is some good stuff, and some not so much.
The Ex series has a very original premise - superheroes against zombies, this way you wont loose your beloved characters to the mindless horde of undead.
That is a good thing and bad too because that worry that the next mission will be your last is absent. That I can recall no main character has died in the series.

Some characters simply disappear though, like the "Driver" from book 2. He was one of the main reason they were successful escaping from the base but simply is not mentioned in the book.

Another thing that strikes me is that it appear that each book is planned when the author starts to write it. Like he was not planning to write a second, a third and so forth.

But overall is a good listen. The narration is awesome.

Awesome follow up to the previous books!!

All of the characters are properly involved! Stories were concluded in a satisfactory manor.. All personalities are well played out in this storyline..

I've already read Ex-Purgatory, the book after this..

Keep it up, Clines!

PS - Read '14' by Peter Clines.. #ThatIsAll

Corpse Girl for the win!

You really should read the first 2 books in this series before you pick up Ex-Communication. Many of the occurrences in this book are tied to the events and actions that took place in the first 2 books and having that context is necessary. Besides, if you like the first 2 books then you’ll be reading/listening to this one in no time at all. All of the Heroes will seem like old friends by the time you get here and you’ll be glad to spend more time with them.

Similar to the start of Book 2, Ex-Communication reveals that the Heroes have been busy in between books. The wall around The Mount has been extended and the relationships between the Heroes have grown as well. Legion is getting smarter and his ability to control the zombie horde is advancing. In addition to adding a new Hero to the mix (Corpse Girl) Peter Clines provides more insight and background to events from the first 2 books. Amongst other things, we learn why Zzzap has been talking to himself and why Dr. Sorensen insisted his daughter wasn’t dead.

It started with Super-Heroes and Zombies, then came the Super-Soldiers, and now Demons and Sorcery emerge to take center stage with a little nano-technology thrown in for good measure. At first I wasn’t thrilled that Clines went in this direction, but after a while I got over it and just went along for the ride. This is more comic book style storytelling delivered in the same “Then” and “Now” format we are used to. The cast of narrators is once again outstanding, so if you are a fan of the series then you will gobble this up quickly.
