Publisher's summary

From the #1 New York Times best-selling author of Bared to You

Years ago, Evangeline Hollis spent a blistering night with a darkly seductive man she can’t forget. But that evening of addictive pleasure has become a disaster of biblical proportions: She’s been branded with the Mark of Cain. Now Eve is thrust into a world where sinners are marked and drafted to kill demons. Her former one-night stand, Cain, is now her mentor - and his equally sexy brother Abel is her new boss. And Eve has become the latest point of contention in the oldest case of sibling rivalry in history.... Cursed by God, hunted by demons, desired by Cain and Abel...all in a day's work.

WE'RE ON THE EVE OF A GREAT NEW SUSPENSE SERIES

Love love love Sylvia Day's books and this is the start of a promising paranormal listen which is a fast paced story about celestial retribution as Cain and Abel fight and kill Demons for God but both lookalike brothers have fallen for the same woman - Eve but one brother marked her for servitude to fight Demons for God and one loves her. She becomes a pawn in the supernatural fight that has witches, werewolves, archangels, various demons, angels and, of course, marked souls and we, the listeners, are thrown in to watch the torment and mayhem as it unfolds.

Skilfully written and fresh the imaginative world building by SD is a totally new concept in the paranormal world and we have no idea what or who we are going to encounter next... we hear about God and his troops but what about Lucifer? It's got an attention grabbing first chapter then we are thrown into six weeks prior to it, couple this with sex, violence, drama, intrigue, plot twists, romance, likeable main characters and some evil ones too. You end up feeling like you're on a great mysterious funfair ride however, you don't know what it does, what comes next or where, when or how it's going to eventually finish but you know it's gonna be one hell of a ride and so all you can do is hold on tight and scream gimme more more more.

Worth a credit? Oh my God after this review..... it's a heavenly YES of course, and I pray Audible will give us the other 4 books in this series.

Could NOT turn the book off!!!!!

Totally new twist on the biblical story. Still the same good vs. evil. But, WOW! The world is overrun with demons that only the Marked ones can see. Evangeline has been roped into God's army, even though she is a proclaimed atheist. But events are slowly leading her to acknowledge the higher power. Evangeline is a totally, reluctant, kick-butt, type of heroine! I loved her character. The two heroes, yes, two heroes. At first I loved Alec and hated Cain, but now I don't know which one to cheer for. I listened to book 1 all day yesterday, sleep by midnight, and started with the second book at 9:00 the next morning! I was thrilled to see that Amazon has the 3rd book. I just don't know if I can wait for Audible. I might not be able to hold myself back! lol Also, Eve's Mom is a hoot. I can't wait to see how the love triangle is resolved.

PS Sylvia Day and Jill Redfield you ROCK!!!! Thanks for the fantastic listening experience.

Better than I expected

This book was better than I expected, however, I'm biased because I love the author and narrator combination from the Crossfire Series. It was slow in a few parts but not enough to diminish my rating of the book. If you are one of those people who have a problem with the bible being in an erotic/romance novel don't get this book. The book is about Cain and Abel, however, I thought the story was evolved and related to the modern times in a very tasteful manner and was not offended at all.

The only problem I have is that this is the first book in the series and none of the subsequent books are being offered. I hope that changes soon.

if your not offended by biblical inference

A good listen if your into paranormal genre, not offended by biblical inference or sexual content. I enjoyed it and intend to get other books in this series. I'd say it's worth the credit.

Trying to Love it.

I am trying to love this series. The first book was just ok for me. Not SD's usual style. There were an enormous amount of Biblical references. Some I got some I did not. Evangeline Hollis was a good character but I needed more romance. I like the tension between Cain and Able over Evangeline but there needed to be more. There are also so many different references to species and life forms that it was a bit hard to follow. Even saying this I still enjoyed the book and I am intrigued enough to get the next one just to see if the romance part picks up. Jill Redfield is one of my favourite narrators and she does not disappoint. She does a great job on all the voices and in making you captivated by the story. I would say that if you like paranormal books and suspense, then this is for you. If you are thinking there is going to be a lot of romance and sex, then look elsewhere. Overall it is between a 3.5 to 4 stars from me. You are either going to love it or hate it. I am sitting on the fence.

I soooo want to see where this is going

Let me say first that book 2 is downloading as I type.

This series predates the crossfire series but man oh man does it pack a punch (or seven).

There is a whole world here that reminds me of the guild hunter series with its complex rules and nuances. I really hope audible gets more of these soon, right now there is just book 2.

So, what's the book about? Well, there is the biblical Cain and Abel but to be honest I'm not much of a religious person so on the bright side I went into this book without preconceptions! Adam and Eve had Cain and Abel. God punished Cain for killing his brother over a woman and sentenced him to be his executioner, he roams the earth doing Gods bidding....but he isn't particularly happy about it.

A woman Cain slept with 10 years ago, Evangeline, has been chosen to be a "MARK", this is for all intents and purposes a demon slayer.... But not all demons are bad, you have to be assigned by your handler to a particular demon hunt and until you are trained you are paired with a mentor. Eve's mentor is Cain, who moved heaven an earth to be assigned to her....and her handler is Abel....oh this is going to go well! (NOT)

The world is complex and cool and it is narrated by the lady who did the crossfire series so we get to hear THE voice if Gideon, oops I mean Cain, oh who are we kidding that is just a smokin' hot voice!!!! And there is enough sexual tension between Cain/Eve/Abel that I'm dying to know where this goes!

One word of advice, don't listen to the first chapter until after the last chapter.....it won't make sense and you will think the book is rubbish. 95% of the book is a flashback....or you can skip first chapter, listen at the end, and poof the book is magical!

narrator voice for male voices is too low to hear

I like the story but when the narrator drops her voice to speak the Male voices I cannot hear the words.

Yawn

Save your money and your time. Boring. Flat. Unbelievable even in the fantastical sense. I have listened to other books by this reader this one was too much. Accents were distracting.
