Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

I Love The Series!!!

My ONLY.... complaint?? Not really a complaint, but didn't really like the voice for Saphira.
Other than that, I'm already downloading the second book.
I've read them all, but really enjoying listening to the story again!!!

Enjoyed it a lot! Can't wait for the sequel because it stopped mid sword stroke.

Very entertaining listen.

Eragon is a great book. You can tell Paolini was young when he wrote it but it's still a great story and very enjoyable for all ages. if you like dragons, magic, and adventure I would highly recommend this whole series.

Excellent Read

Christopher Paolini does an excellent job making this book the not-so-average fantasy novel. The storyline is rich and captivating making this a great read for all ages. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone interested in a good fantasy novel!

Lord of the Rings "lite"

This is a very entertaining book. Well researched and crafted, there are touches of Anglo-Saxon mythology reminiscent of Beowulf though much more accessible due to the modernity of the script. It has themes similar to Arthurian legends and lore. I was very happy with it!

A good read and fun to listen to!!!

It's an excellent book.
The author is certainly young but competent.
Not a fan of the author's dragon voice, however.

Absolutely Fantastic

The reading is perfect. The narrator sounds exactly like I would imagine the characters! The story moves at a very even pace, and is beautifully written.

I would recommend this to middle school and older, and all fantasy/sci-fi fans. The world the author creates is richly depicted, and the characters are fully developed.

It's a great story for a long drive, and will keep both young and old entertained.

A decent start to a phenomenal series

It's pretty obvious early on in this book that the author is young and inexperienced. At times the story lags and the prose can be disjointed. There is an annoying habit of having the main character foreshadow and spell out the meaning of every scene by thinking to himself. Some people also dislike the way the narrator does the dragon voice. Despite all these criticisms, it's a pretty great story. Sure, it borrows from other fantasy series and there's nothing particularly new and groundbreaking here, but spend enough time looking and you'll find that most fictional worlds borrow from others that are already established.

The series starts a bit slow but it builds fast. The second book shows a marked improvement in pacing and storytelling, and the third and fourth books are breathtaking, edge-of-your-seat reads (listens).

The narrator does an excellent job, giving each character a unique and recognizable voice. The experience is smooth and keeps you listening.
