Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

eccentric voice acting but amazing story

Ross is one of my favorite books. The reading is done well if a little oddly for one reader. It's a typical fantasy book for a teenage/adult audience but for what it is it is one of the best. The character growth is excellent.

Not just for teens

I have to say that even though I am over "40" I enjoyed listening to this story and upon finishing wanted to continue with it. Of course, I found that the 2nd book has yet to be completed but I hope that it is soon so that I can go forward. I am impressed with the authors ability to grab all ages. If you want a beginning and end in one story you will not enjoy, but if you enjoy a journey and keep your mind open, you will definitely enjoy.

Magical Read

I'm an avid reader of adventure books. Really enjoyed this read and can't wait to start the next book.
The first in C.Pailini's series has really set the stage for me. It has an old century feel with sword battles and superstitions. Epic way to write a story :)
The voice of the dragon sounds a lot like other voices sometimes making it hard to differentiate characters. But overall pretty good.

Amazing writer

One of the best writers I have ever read. I have read this book half a dozen times, and listened to the audio book a dozen or more. It is just amazing. Gerard Doyle is a wonderful narrator also.

Excellent, however

I did enjoy this book very much but something was wrong in the narration, I figured it out when I saw the movie. I strongly feel that this book should have had more than one narrator. After seeing the movie, which is something I rarely do after reading a book, I realized that Safira's voice should have been done by a woman. There was just something about a female voice that made her more alive and real. In all the movie did get the basics but the book is so much richer.

I see what all the fuss is about!!

What made the experience of listening to Eragon the most enjoyable?

I loved, loved, loved the narrator! He did an expemplary job of voice fluxuations, tempo, and character changes. I am very much a D&D fan and this is very close to the original Tanis books I'm used to. Very easy to get lost in the narration and wound up in the story! Definately a must "read"!

What about Gerard Doyle’s performance did you like?

He was fantastic! 1 - I loved his English accent! It really lended that little something to the characters to really teleport you into the story. 2- He can narrate all the characters so well, there's no questioning who's talking when. 3 - his pace and tempo are spot on! you can really feel what the characters are feeling through him.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Well there was a film made about this book and I am sorely disappointed in the producers! It does not give this book it's due.

Any additional comments?

I look far and wide for books I can get lost in and THIS definately is one to "read"! I am also in the middle of the 3rd in the series and I can tell you that there is excellent continutity between books. If you get this, you'll definately be in the market for the others!!
