Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

12-year-old son LOVED it!

I got this audiobook for my 12-year-old for Christmas. He raved about it and keeps asking when Eragon 2 will be available!

I love the story, characters creatures and magic. Very entertaining though I didn’t care much for the narrator. Overall a great buy though.

The is the first of a great series I highly recomend to all ages. Its attention to detail about weapons and armor and realistic functionaity is alway a pleasant addition.

Good but...

I thoroughly enjoyed the book but part of the enjoyment was the fact that I could listen to it in my car(I do a lot of driving). I suspect that if I'd read instead of listened to it I might have skipped to the end. The characters are well developed as is the overall plot. However, I was a little frustrated by the way that the plot didn't develop enough because of the constant 'attacks' against Eragon and co which came at moments when I wanted the plot to develop further. I felt that some of these incidents were there to pad out the book rather than to advance it. I would recommend it and am waiting for the next installment but in the audible version.

Fantastic book!

It amazes me how young the author is for this level of detail and fantastic story telling.
The voice of the dragon is distracting. Otherwise a great listen!

very good. when's the next?

I enjoyed listening to this book. I enjoyed how Gerard voiced each character, although it's kind of difficult to imagine female characters with a male voice, but I can't complain otherwise. I definitely recommend this book to others, even ten plus years after it was released.
