Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." "An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

One of my favorite books!

I’ve read this series several times and I love it more every time. I think the narrator is wrong for this book and I’m not at all a fan of the “Cookie Monster” voice he gave Sapphira.

Excellent Story!

I have been a fan of Paolini's work since I was a child, ajd revisiting Eragon was a treat. Doyle's interpretation of tje story was well executed, though I agree with other users in his interpretation of Saphira; he voiced her like a brute, a troll, when in truth, she was meant to be a majestic being with a voice to match. Also feminine. All in all, a great reading, with that being my only gripe.

Loved this! It was a great way to escape my day to day stress!

Loved this! I already knew I lives the story that I read years ago back in high school. I have wanted to read it again but don’t have the energy after work. The was a great way to go on an adventure when I can’t escape regular life. My only thing I would suggest is a different voice for Arya- her character deserves a better/stronger/ more elegant female voice. I also had not imagined this as being set in the UK so that accept through me off a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I would be happy for that for Tolkien and just listened to all of the Jane Austen books with British readers but that isn’t how I imagined Eragon.

Best Book Series

This is by far my favorite series! I read the actual books when I was younger and it took me nearly two weeks to complete the first book, versus listening to it here, which took me a course of a couple of days.

The narrator did a marvelous job bringing the characters to life. I honestly felt as though I were in a theater watching it play out before my eyes! And I thought I alone had the power to bring a book to life by reading alone.

I look forward to earning the other books of the Inheritance Cycle on here and I plan on continuing to use Audible for my book worm needs!

Absolutely incredible

I first read this at the age of 11, and was blown away. It was easily accessible compared to something like LOTR (which I had already read), and the author writes incredibly well in terms of description. This is one of the few books that you can really picture locations in a way that feels less like guesswork and more like reality, thanks to the vibrant and eloquent descriptions.

As for the speaker, his voice was easily one of the best I've heard on Audible. The voice for Eragon was a little more boyish than I would have liked, but it grows on you. Saphira however, had an annoying old woman voice, which is rather upsetting at first, but by the end, you get used to it and don't really care. Considering how many female characters there are by the end of the series, it's probably a good idea, so that he doesn't have similar sounding characters.

Speaking of variety in voices, it's amazing. Every character is distinctive, and the narration is exceptional.

Enjoyable Ride

This book is an enjoyable ride, made better by the reader's use of voices AND the many, many index points available in the book. I look forward to reading more in the saga, as well as reading other books from this young author.

Well Read

The book is very interesting. The reader does a great job of dramatizing the voices of characters. I am moving on to Eldest now.
