Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

Great story decent naration

Narration was well done, voices gave each character an identity. Not thrilled with the voice of the dragon though.

To all those hating on Sapphiras voice.

Even Eragon could not tell she was a female from her mental voice. so I think the voice is fine.

Good story but the narration kinda ruins it

I read these books when I was younger and loved them so I decided to listen again. While the story it still good the different voices of the narrator are truly horrible. The voice he uses for Saphira and Solembum is honestly similar to a bad try at being the Cookie Monster. Why is the voice for Murtag a Scottish accent? Why does Arya’s voice sound like a man making fun of women? It’s truly a big distraction while listening to the book.

one of my favorites, young adult

I love this book, but the teenager's unrequited love for a centennial is uncomfortable. the narration is on point and I listen to this series over and over again when I need a familiar good listen.

Good narrating, smooth voice, and it breathes life into the story. I would recommend this version highly.

Not just a dragon story

When the story started, I trought it was about the dragon. By the end, I realized it was an epic story of a hero named Aragon who, with his dragon friend, persevered through all to save his world from dark magic.

First time listener

After months of listening to a coworker about Audible I decided to try it out. Starting with Eragon, which I've read multiple times before, I started listening on my commute to work and quickly filled any spare time with ear buds in listening to the great story. Highly recommend as the voice actor is pretty good as well making it easy to depict the different characters during dialog.

One of my favorite books!

I’ve read this series several times and I love it more every time. I think the narrator is wrong for this book and I’m not at all a fan of the “Cookie Monster” voice he gave Sapphira.

Excellent Story!

I have been a fan of Paolini's work since I was a child, ajd revisiting Eragon was a treat. Doyle's interpretation of tje story was well executed, though I agree with other users in his interpretation of Saphira; he voiced her like a brute, a troll, when in truth, she was meant to be a majestic being with a voice to match. Also feminine. All in all, a great reading, with that being my only gripe.
