Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

I've enjoyed the inheritance cycle for many years. now with the audio book i have more opportunities to enjoy it again! the reader does a terrific job! I was not a big fan of Saphira's voice at first but it grew on me. I would recommend it to anyone who liked the book!

Narrator was great, except dragon voices...

What made the experience of listening to Eragon the most enjoyable?

The narrator's versatility made listening easy. I have read the books many times and Mr. Doyle effectively conveyed the emotions and tones I interpreted as I read.

Any additional comments?

I absolutely did not like Mr. Doyle's voice for Saphira. She is supposed to be a majestic, elegant FEMALE dragon and he made her sound like a sick toad. I really hope his voices for the other dragons in the next books are better. They talk so much throughout the story that the bad voices make it hard to listen.

Excellent book

Was over all a great book, my only issue is the voiceovers. By no means horrible but I had watched the movie before the book and am used to the voices all being of human sound (I.e. sapphira having a female voice) nonetheless an amazing book

Terrible voice for dragon

Good book, enjoyed the story. Voice used for the dragon is cheesy and annoying. That is all.

Arjetlam.

Safiras voice was a bit jarring. I felt like the movie got it right. Otherwise a near perfect reading!

loved it

I read the series years ago and decided to go thru the story again. It was even better than the first time and having it read to you with a cast makes the difference

Excellent Narration

The narrator has a voice with such emotion and really captures the wisdom and gruffness of Bronn, the naivety and childishness of Eragon (in the beginning), the jaded and yet slightly optimism of Murtaugh.
