Publisher's summary

The novel that launched the bestselling Ender's Shadow series—available for the first time on audio

The human race is at War with the "Buggers," an insect-like alien race. As Earth prepares to defend itself from total destruction at the hands of an inscrutable enemy, all focus is on the development of military geniuses who can fight such a war, and win. The long distances of interstellar space have given hope to the defenders of Earth--they have time to train these future commanders up from childhood, forging them into an irresistible force in the high orbital facility called the Battle School. Andrew "Ender" Wiggin was not the only child in the Battle School; he was just the best of the best. In Ender's Shadow, Card tells the story of another of those precocious generals, the one they called Bean—the one who became Ender's right hand, part of his team, in the final battle against the Buggers. Bean's past was a battle just to survive. His success brought him to the attention of the Battle School's recruiters, those people scouring the planet for leaders, tacticians, and generals to save Earth from the threat of alien invasion. Bean was sent into orbit, to the Battle School. And there he met Ender....

Excellent Book slight hiccup near end of recording

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Loved the book, excellent tie-in to Ender's Game. I like that the same performers are consistent through the Ender series and Shadow series. Slight hiccup near the end of the audiobook, however. The last chapter begins with a repeat of the last 20 minutes or so of the previous one. Had to skip forward to avoid having to re-listen to the same thing, right at the climax of the story. It takes you out of the moment. Other than that, great work to the author and actors.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ender's Shadow?

Learning the truth behind Bean's origin.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Bean, of course

If you like Enders Game, the. Read this!

Excellent. If you like Enders Game, then this is a great read. Such a good book and this is a great performance.
Like most of OSC's books there is just a bit too much Bible for my taste. It doesn't seem to add to the story and it just gets preachy. But beyond that, the sender universe is great fun and this book does not disappoint at all!!!

Amazing story and performance

After finishing Enders Game through Children of the Mind, I came back to re reading this book from when I was a child. Since then I’ve seen the movie as well which came many years later. This book doesn’t disappoint and it shows so many more insights into this world Card weaves together.

The part I most love are the Afterwards that Card writes, sharing his thoughts about the book as well as related thoughts like when they created the Ender’s Game film. It’s so eye opening and I love hearing what he’s planning or what he has planned for us.

I love this book

I think that when I listened to this book, I can picture what they’re saying in my head. They had a lot of graphic detail that made these pictures in my head that I could imagine I was right there with them.

Ender's Shadow

At first i wasn't sure i would like "Ender's Game" being told from Bean's perspective. Once i was about one third of the way in i was in love with it! The truth is we all see diffeent things in life through out own eyes. and Orson Scott Card has truley captured that here.
Some of the narration is a bit stilted. You frequently get tehe feeling they are reading a script. But this is easily overlooked by the wonderful story.
The conflicted characters, the emotions and personal interactions are so real you forget you are reading fiction.
I am not sure if i will continue through all of this saga but i highly recommed "Ender's Shadow" to anyone who liked "Ender's Game".

As good as Ender's Game.

Absolutely a joy to listen to, as good as Ender's Game. I also agree with Card that these productions are so much better than the movie.
