Editorial reviews

With a full cast production, this highly-entertaining dramatization of the award-winning military science fiction story Ender's Game will wow fans as well as listeners new to this classic. Using an original screenplay written by Orson Scott Card himself, the audioplay takes listeners through Battle School with prodigy Ender Wiggin.

The cast fleshes out their characters with full personalities and motivations - in particular, the actors who portray the children at Battle School do a wonderful job in bringing out their precociousness and fading innocence. The action scenes are brisk and electrifying, and listeners will be swept up in the events of the story.

Well done stage version

I enjoyed listening to this version having read the original. It was well done and paints the pictures through the characters' eyes without the use of a narrator. This version doesn't lose anything staying true to the story.

details

it's always the small details that make a book better than a movie I feel. I also enjoyed the full cast more than I thought I would but I feel the music wasn't needed.

Not for first timers. Didn't live to the original.

Behind the creation of this audiobook there was a good idea, bad it was poorly executed. It missed all of the indirect speech, thus wasn't suitable for first time listeners at all, not mentioning You cut out like 80% of the story. I wish You made this one 21 hours long, with all the dialogues and indirect speech from the original book and some more, it'd been TOP, a total masterpiece.

This is like Earth without art, just eh. I see this audiobook as a missed opportunity.

A brilliant radio-like performance.

Many reviews on the internet bemoan the lack of child voice actors in this title. Phooey!

Like many popular kids shows, the boys younger than puberty are voiced by females without much notice by an engrossed audience.

These narrators are seasoned in the craft of voice acting and lend real talent to one of my favorite books of all time.

This isn't a full-cast audiobook version of the original, but something different. Both the performance and scripting offer insight to the series, not just the original story.

Absolutely brilliant!

After reading the original book and watching the movie, this book was as close to an actual Broadway Play as any I have ever read before. This book is how I, personally, believe the movie should have gone. It kept the original book's performance with only quotation and no filler. I can consider it like a movie without the visuals.

Too much is missing

I had read Ender's game twice over a decade ago, as well as Ender's shadow, but so much of the story was either never explained or quickly glossed over. I felt disconnected from the characters and story whenever they used slang that was never explicitly discussed in the audio. The performances were great, but the script should have been more inclusive at 7 hours and 24 minutes, you may as well have rounded it up to 8 hours, and tried to include some of the battles, I know they won't be as descriptive, but reading the battles always gave a sense of excitement and were enthralling. I know they covered his first, last and the battle with Boneso, but I think they went over more in the book.

Loved this format

I have read the original book a few times. I recommend a person reads the book first as it gives additional insight into Ender, Bean, and others. I loved the performance. It was pretty easy to pick up on who was speaking, which really added to the whole audio play.
