Cute but slow

Cute story but very slow pace to both story and narration. We listened at 1.2x and it sounded normal.

I love this story!

This is such an imaginative book. I think Orson Scott Card is my favorite author of all time. I read this book as a young girl, and, although I didn't understand very much of it back then, the story stuck with me for well over two decades. I never remember authors' names from anything I read back in my childhood, but I was delighted to find that Enchantment was a Card book, as I've really fallen in love with his work through hearing the readings on Audible. I can't seem to get enough of the characters' thought processes and philosophical intellect Card demonstrates in his writings. He never fails to immerse me into his works as a reader/listener, and this time is no different. I will listen to this again and again. I highly recommend!
Also, I could listen to Stefan Rudnicki for hours and hours on end, his voice and storytelling style are enthralling.

Enchanting

OSC is not reliable, I've been dissapointed here and there. But not this time. It's rather nicely done. I'd say it's close to Gaimon worthy with a little more reality built-in. It's a tale for an age where our history and past are a bit neglected. Not smushy in the tale sense either - a smart, mythical trip into magic for anyone. Meaning you dont' have to be a chic to carry it around the park eh?

Fantasy with Historical and Mythical Elements

An imaginative tale that uses _Sleeping Beauty_ as a point of departure for a fantasy that links the 20th century with an imagined 9th century Slavonic kingdom. The ending is weaker than the rest of the story (a common phenomenon,) but it held my interest all the way through.

good, not great

I enjoyed going off on another trip with Scott Card, Stephen and Gabrielle. This is a nice tail of strict fantasy. I rate it a 3. Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow rate 5s. Magic Street and the rest of the Shadow series rate 4s. I rate the Worthing Sage lower.

If you really like Card, and have read the best, this one will provide some pleasure.

Weird difference between readers

The music in the background during Baba Yaga's narration was strange. It was also weird that the male reader would use different accents while the female reader used virtually the same voice for all characters but Esther.

Enjoyable though inconsistent narration

Any additional comments?

This is actually narrated by two people. It was distracting when the same character is dramatized very differently by each of the narrators. I would have preferred if Mr. Rudnicki was permitted to narrate the whole thing. Otherwise, the story was very enjoyable.

A Marvelous Modern Day Fairy Tale For Adults

I absolutely loved Cards spin on Sleeping Beauty! I've never read such a good fairy tale novel that was not written for children or teenagers. I was enthralled the entire time I listened to the book. I liked it so much that i listened to the book three times in a row (of course i was recovering from surgery and couldn't do anything else...).

I also loved Rudnicki's Russian accent while narrating the book, it made the Russian characters in the book come alive much more believably than if anyone else would have narrated the book.

However, whenever the book is told from the point of view of a female character, the narrator changes to a woman, who is awful at narrating believable male characters. the woman narrator does not have very good male character voices. In her voice, all the men sound like they are yelling, or if not, they all have exactly the same voice. I would have preferred the whole book narrated by Rudnicki.

Overlooking the second narrator (which fortunately is less than half of the book) I recommend this book to everyone who loves fairy tales!

A pleasant and charming story

It takes a couple of chapters before it finds it feet, but then it moves along at a very nice pace.
