Publisher's summary

Jorg would be emperor. It is a position not to be gained by the sword but rather by vote. And never in living memory has anyone secured a majority of the vote, leaving the Broken Empire long without a leader. Jorg has plans to change that - one way or the other. He’s uncovered even more of the lost technology of the land, and he won’t hesitate to use it. But he soon finds an adversary standing in his way, a necromancer unlike any he has ever faced - a figure hated and feared even more than himself: the Dead King. The boy who would rule all may have finally met his match....

fantastic ending to a great trilogy

fantastic ending to a great trilogy. I enjoyed each of the books but this one did a great job of capping it all off.

Prepare yourself for a bloody decent into hell.

This is one of the most enthralling series I've read. You will be pulled in by the blooded life of Prince Jorg Ancrath

Like the narrator

I like this narrator the venom with which he says Jhorg. Is perfect. Poor broken child. I hope he found peace. He may yet be a better AI then man.

Too many of the voices started to blend together

I enjoyed the series overall, but the ending felt rushed and too put together. Emperor 30 seconds before utter doom, utter doom stopped by...wanting it more...utter doom doesn’t fight back because even though it wants revenge it wants to be loved? Utter doom wants revenge because of a deed not done by a small child who couldn’t really help. It was over edited or ran out of ideas with one chapter to go. Did not finish with the elegance I have seen throughout the series. It rambled a bit at times and there were too many one off savings that just happened to work and if any one of them did not then the book would have ended with the antihero failing. I was as confused as Rike was at the last standoff.

It sounded as well like the narrator had too many similar sounding characters.

Mark Lawrence is in my top five writers all time

Love the broken empire series. Mark Lawrence pulls you in and doesn't let go. I love the darkness to jorg and the unflappable decision making. No think just do. The red queens war was excellent also. please do more on the series. PLEASE!!! narrator clamp played jorg to perfection. I could feel and understand the characters emotions because of clamps fine fine work. wonderful altogether

Mark Lawrence is amazing.

I can not think of enough adjectives to describe how well written this story is. It is clear that Mark Lawrence has poured his heart and soul into this trilogy. Through out the journey Jorg is sometimes stirring, sometimes cruel and thoughtless and sometimes just plain evil. Despite all of this you find your self rooting for him and knowing that his will is stronger than the other guys. With writing that rejects, or at least reshapes, the clichés of other books about heroes and likable characters Mark Lawrence took all of us on a wonderful journey. A journey that saw young Jorg grow in to a man and eventually learn to love something more than himself. The way the book ended would have been so out of character for the Jorg of the first two books but the way Mark weaves the story it is completely believable at the end.

While this book is anything but gentle or a deathless work of art, in fact Jorg in the previous books murdered an entire country down to the last baby, it is captivating. Even when he was cruel and heartless there was always a reason for it. I will miss the Journey with Jorg and his cut throat band of brothers. This has been one of the best reads or rather listens I have had in perhaps ever. I have decided to continue the Journey with Prince Jalan Kendeth in the Red Queens war series and have to say I quite enjoy it as well. You can not go wrong with this trilogy. Worth every credit.

Absolute Essential Reading!

For anyone aspiring to be an author, or anyone tired of the same old, same old fantasy novel.

This book is a master class on how to write an ending. Mark Lawrence writes an afterword to the readers after the conclusion to Emperor of Thrones that I definitely recommend reading after you finish the trilogy.

Lawrence is like the Quentin Tarantino of writing. He takes risks jumping around in the timeline in a way that builds suspense, and then finds a way to tie everything together at the end in ways you don't expect. Just when you think you know what is going to happen next, Lawrence surprises you. It's a bold and different way of writing, but it's a great way to disguise which way the story is headed. It's also a great way to add depth and background to a story without it getting dry or boring.

Great pacing throughout the series, nothing felt like filler material.

Fair warning, there are scenes of rape, and extreme violence that can be disturbing in this series.

Great job by James Clamp.

it's just great

yes it's dark and a little hard for some, but the character is raw, smart, and funny. I've listened to over 100 books on here and this is one of my favorite.
