Publisher's Summary

Jorg would be emperor. It is a position not to be gained by the sword but rather by vote. And never in living memory has anyone secured a majority of the vote, leaving the Broken Empire long without a leader. Jorg has plans to change that - one way or the other. He’s uncovered even more of the lost technology of the land, and he won’t hesitate to use it. But he soon finds an adversary standing in his way, a necromancer unlike any he has ever faced - a figure hated and feared even more than himself: the Dead King. The boy who would rule all may have finally met his match....

    "Entire Adoration"
What did you love best about Emperor of Thorns?

Everything. I absolutely adore this series, I love the character of Jorg and even more I love how Mark Lawrence continually move the story from current to 4 or 5 years ago. It entirely brings together the man he was and the man he is and why he makes the choices he does.

What other book might you compare Emperor of Thorns to and why?

I have few absolute favorite books in the fantasy genre that reach an epic status in my mind, definitely the king killer chronicles, blood song and the way of kings. I would say Mark Lawrences series also creates the epic feel of a world with its own customs and way of life, gods ands myths that my adored epic series do, however, because Jorg is largely the sole focus of the series and all other characters continuously only carrying minor roles, I think this book does slightly fall short in that. I almost wish Mark Lawrence would have had separate books for each of Jorgs years, but then I suppose to have lived even more years with Jorg, the ending would have been absolutely devastating. For the series he wrote and the length, the ending was perfectly chosen.

What does James Clamp bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This narrator does an EXCELLENT job! I didn't even think twice about getting the audible book as opposed to reading it. He uses different voices/inflections for the different characters, even does a fantastic girl voice!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The antics of Jorg would continually make me chuckle and smile. Smile that he was so completely genius and brilliant in his scheming.

    Any additional comments?

If you like slightly dark humour, blood shed, or just want a book to get so absorbed in that you lose yourself entirely. Get this series, get it, live it, love it. Mourn it once its over.

    "Narrator"

The narrator in this series was outstanding! I will be looking for more of his content. His ability to change his voice for each character makes them instantly recognizable so there is no guessing who is speaking. I can't say enough good about him! Thank you James Clamp for this thoroughly exciting experience.

    "fantastic read/listening"

gaaaaaahhhhh! It's not grand or epic like the Cosmere , The Wheel of Time or even The Black Company but what a universe with possibility. The world was so real and convincing despite being quite fantastical.
The story sucks you in trying to anticipate the next moment. I particularly enjoyed the way the story was told, with the present interspersed into the past until it catches up with the present.
The series was a little grizzly in places but not excessive in detail .

    "Absolute Essential Reading!"

For anyone aspiring to be an author, or anyone tired of the same old, same old fantasy novel.

This book is a master class on how to write an ending. Mark Lawrence writes an afterword to the readers after the conclusion to Emperor of Thrones that I definitely recommend reading after you finish the trilogy.

Lawrence is like the Quentin Tarantino of writing. He takes risks jumping around in the timeline in a way that builds suspense, and then finds a way to tie everything together at the end in ways you don't expect. Just when you think you know what is going to happen next, Lawrence surprises you. It's a bold and different way of writing, but it's a great way to disguise which way the story is headed. It's also a great way to add depth and background to a story without it getting dry or boring.

Great pacing throughout the series, nothing felt like filler material.

Fair warning, there are scenes of rape, and extreme violence that can be disturbing in this series.

    Great job by James Clamp.

Awesome story with the biggest letdown for an ending. Way to go "Dallas" on your readers.

    "The perfect audiobook."

This series of audiobooks is a perfect match of performance and story. And it is a great story. Clever, concise, and epic.

Anything more would be a spoiler.

    "An emotional story.. good tho."

Loved it, had a down to earth feel that was easy to comprehend and enjoy... but sent me on a surprising emotional rollercoaster. Few story do that to me anymore and this one just creeps up on you with the feels. Sad, disgusted, it has it. Listen if you want to know what it's like to be truly evil for all the right reasons.

    "makes you wish for more"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, a great performance, good writing, memorable characters. then throw in some laughter, and finally throwing out the lines between black and white, whats not to like.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well Jorg would be the character i most liked manly becouse, I can't really make up my mind on if i view him as a bad guy or a good guy. well maybe good guy is a bit of a strech so last say gray guy.

What about James Clamp’s performance did you like?

His performance lets me enjoy the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, it made me care about the characters in the book to the point i wish i had more time with them and the world.

    Any additional comments?

This book has everything that made you read the last two books, and you get to see Jorg grow more as a character. Only real down side is this is the last book.

"good until right before the end"

I enjoyed the whole series in this book was no exception the problem is at the very end it felt as if the author had had enough of the series, or didn't know how to end it, and created what I consider an unsatisfying ending
