"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

Darkness falls… despair abounds… evil reigns… Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have just saved the rebel state from destruction by the mighty forces of King Galbatorix. Now Eragon must travel to Ellésmera, land of the elves, for further training in the skills of the Dragon Rider: magic and swordsmanship. But chaos and betrayal plague him at every turn, and nothing is what it seems. Before long, Eragon doesn’t know whom he can trust.

Will the king’s dark hand strangle all resistance? Eragon may not escape with even his life. . . .

Training sequence

Great story but can be very dry. It’s like a training montage in a movie but in slow motion, and without the moving music. When the action sequences occur they are masterfully done.

Part two of an incredible story

This series never fails to amaze me. I have read or listened multiple times and I still find myself excited at every twist and turn in the story. This one in particular may be my favorite, in fact. Recommended for all who love fantasy!

please make this into an HBO series.

Netflix or HBO please produce this into a miniseries with integrity preferably with four seasons but you can probably get away with it in three.

Great story

Haven’t read this in years. Love the storyline. The voices are a little cheesy at times but I appreciate the differentiation between characters voices. Enjoyed this 30 hour read and was sad it was over. On to the next one!

A great addition to the series

It does everything a sequel should do, expands on the lore, fleshes out characters, builds on the established world, and leaves you wanting more.
Looking forward to finishing the third book.

Fantastic

Eldest is one of my most favorite books. I love the whole inheritance cycle. But Eldest will always sit home with me as it introduces you to the characters that we fall in love with.

Well Read if a bit predictable

I love the story the characters and especially the magic system as described by Christopher Paolini. Although it is very well fleshed out the book is very derivative of many fantasy tropes you’ve seen before. The magic system can’t be praised enough though. He has found a way to really make the rules clear and with consequence without breaking the pace usually trapped in other fantasies
