"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

Darkness falls… despair abounds… evil reigns… Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have just saved the rebel state from destruction by the mighty forces of King Galbatorix. Now Eragon must travel to Ellésmera, land of the elves, for further training in the skills of the Dragon Rider: magic and swordsmanship. But chaos and betrayal plague him at every turn, and nothing is what it seems. Before long, Eragon doesn’t know whom he can trust.

Will the king’s dark hand strangle all resistance? Eragon may not escape with even his life. . . .

Quite an epic continue to the inheritance cycle series, it was slow at some parts in the story that's all in all a pretty good story

Great job narrator/writer.

I have always loved these books. The reader puts life to the characters and reads very dramatically but not over.the top.

Love love love

I’ve read the series before but loved listening to it just as much. My absolute only qualm was that I always imagined sapphira’s voice to be that of a gentle but strong woman’s, and not as rough as it was in the reading. But honestly that’s just personal interpretation.

voice actor looses points

the book is fine. writing is great. but a female dragon sounds like a dude and a female elf sounds like a dude. it take me out of immersion.

Star Wars paralels continue

It's alot like Empire Strikes Back (in a Tolkien setting of course) and if Luke spent almost the whole movie on Degoba. Eragon trains and trains, Galbatorix's empire literally strikes back, and there are family reveals. This is where actual 15 year old me stopped reading, but now I'll continue to finally see what happens. I may sound harsh, but it is a fun book regardless. It can't go worse than Star Wars from here can it? The narrator's voice acting is growing on me.

My biggest praise of this book is how detailed, sensical, and internally consistant the magic is. This book teaches you a lot about the magic of Alagaesia, but still leaves you with the sense that you've barely scratched the surface. Perhaps because of the pseudoscientific presentation and the skeptical nature of its main practitioners. Ellesmira is a humanist utopia that I would give almost anything to live in if it were real.

Great story!

The story of this book is great, picks up right after the first book and adds so much more story! the only part I didn't like is the voice of saphira, the reader just doesn't do a good job with her and I wish she was better.

Very good

This book had minimal plot holes and was very entertaining. You fall in love with the main character but get a little annoyed by the side stories of Roran. This book is great for fantasy fiction lovers who have already read Eragon
