Publisher's summary

The story of The First Formic War continues in Earth Awakens.

Nearly 100 years before the events of Orson Scott Card's bestselling novel Ender's Game, humans were just beginning to step off Earth and out into the Solar System. A thin web of ships in both asteroid belts; a few stations; a corporate settlement on Luna. No one had seen any sign of other space-faring races; everyone expected that First Contact, if it came, would happen in the future, in the empty reaches between the stars. Then a young navigator on a distant mining ship saw something moving too fast, heading directly for our sun.

When the alien ship screamed through the solar system, it disrupted communications between the far-flung human mining ships and supply stations, and between them and Earth. So Earth and Luna were unaware that they had been invaded until the ship pulled into Earth orbit, and began landing terra-forming crews in China. Politics and pride slowed the response on Earth, and on Luna, corporate power struggles seemed more urgent than distant deaths. But there are a few men and women who see that if Earth doesn't wake up and pull together, the planet could be lost.

Awesome!

Orson and Aaron have done it again! Their characters are real, interesting, and likeable. Even the ones you hate! Their ability to put characters in tough situations and yet still think their way out is remarkable and ingenuitive! Truly they are two of the best writers of our time!

Great Performances!

I'm looking forward to the next trilogy in the series! It's a great explainer to Enders Game.

Not as good as Earth Afire but still ok.

I have found all of O.S. Card's works involving Ender story line captivating. Segments of this book though, were too over the top. For instance, I know the 8 yr old was a precursor to flight school candidates but he was too unbelievable at times. I like Cards' attention to detail but some of the battles were also too unbelievable; unlike book 2 of the Formic war 1

I wish there was a preview of book 4

so I am writing this before the first book has come out. With that said I am sad that the author and publisher chose not to include more of the fourth book or a preview. With that out of the way I found the book entertaining and insightful in the ender universe.

Humanity's First Victory against the Formics

If you could sum up Earth Awakens in three words, what would they be?

Victory! For now.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mazer Rackam because of how integral he was to all the characters in the story.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've listened to Stefan Rudnicki multiple times and the others in the other books in the trilogy. These performances are on par with their other performances.

This Prequel is Better Than the Ender Trilogy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is paced perfectly and the performance is the best I've experienced on Audible.

What other book might you compare Earth Awakens to and why?

Ender's Game and the entire Ender Trilogy. Orson Scott Card is a masterful writer who blends character development and action in just the right proportion.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The performers of "Earth Awakens" turn the novel into a very real theater of the mind.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to listen to it all in a single sitting, but it took three days for me to find the time.

Any additional comments?

This (and all books in the Ender's series) is the best Audible has to offer.

Action. Long awaited. Good mini culmination

Best of the three in this series. Naturally. Well put together. Good deep story about maneuvers. Politics. Etc. Appeals to inventive people. Good for evoking tactical thinking. A story of Heroes in battle. Good groundwork for ender series. If this goes to movie. This will be the second half. The first two books will mush into the first half.
