Amazing

No words I could say would give Frank Herbert's work proper justice. It's beyond me.

Good but some characters are de-emphasized from Dune

Great performance! Unfortunately some characters are wasted and missed. Story is good but dark. Should be interesting if they make it into a film.

unessential reading for a great series

while just as good as any of Herbert's writing, the plot itself is a sort of tag on to the first book. if not for a few spoilers that carry into the third book, you cutoff almost skip this one and not miss much. sort of a dune 1.5. but if you really loved the first one and wanna go balls deep into the dune universe, you'll have fun with this book.

as far as the voice acting, i really wish they were more consistent with which narrator they used. there's a few powerful scenes done by a younger narrator that doesn't give it much gravitas which is disappointing. but overall it didn't bother me that much. hers hoping the movie drums up enough interest for a new fully casted audiobook series.

Noble ending

I really liked how this book ended the whole story. Great book. I highly recommend listening to.

Good Overall...but

Book was fun overall. However, it didn't quite capture me as much as the first. I thought the narration was slightly lacking from that of the first as well as there just not being as good of a story. I still recommend this book for those interested in the series but it took me much longer to make it through this one.

Great 2nd Chapter.

1st read in 1969, better with cast of voices, and not making up in My head.

decent story, erratic narration

once again I am puzzled by the choices of the directors on how a Dune book is narrated. for some reason they have cast members from the prior book who were only assigned to individual characters now doing narration for the entire cast of characters but only in a handful of chapters, with the main narrator taking over the rest

these books would be far better off if the main narrator just did the whole thing

Enjoyable

I was astonished by the first Dune where this one was good but a bit lackluster by comparison. I like where the story went though so I'm definitely looking forward to continuing the saga! The audible performance wasn't 5 star but nothing to complain about. Hard to get this one to 5 star anything but yeah, loving Dune so far!

alright story, confused by multiple narrators

Doesn't need multiple narrators. it was confusing to have multiple narrators. And this version seems to be abridged? I dunno, seemed clipped.

does not compare to dune

This book is alright but lacks inspiration of the first book. The overall plot has far less grandeur compared to Dune, the sense of scale is significantly smaller as the story largely confines itself to Arrakis. I imagine many people who liked Dune may be turned off by Dune messiah's very slow action. This book is in parts boring, in a meta sense reflecting Paul's relationship with his prescient empeorhood -- Paul says as much that his powers and his position trap him in interminable boredom of constantly reliving events. Given how Frank Herbert gives away everything that will happen in the future from the beginning, that is the reader's experience too. I would recommend Dune, but I would caution people interested in Dune Messiah.
