Publisher's summary

Continuing the events leading up to Frank Herbert's immortal Dune saga, the exciting conclusion to this trilogy finds the cruel Tleilaxu overlords on Ix manufacturing a synthetic form of amal to supplant the spice from Dune. If amal is accepted, Emperor Shaddam IV will gain absolute power. But if the plot of the Imperial House Corrino succeeds, the result may be the end of civilization itself.

Critic reviews

"[A] fully satisfying conclusion (after Dune: House Atreides and Dune: House Harkonnen) to the authors' "House" trilogy....The inevitable derivative features aside, this is a good, steady, enjoyable tale, and readers who haven't read the first two books can easily follow the plot." ( Publishers Weekly)
"[T]his complex and compelling tale of dynastic intrigue and high drama adds a significant chapter to the classic Dune saga. Highly recommended." ( Library Journal)

Science fiction is a genre as diverse as you can imagine. There are stories that take place in deep space, often depicting teams exploring or running away from something; stories that focus on life at the most cellular level, such as a pandemic tale; and stories that take place in times that feel similar to our own. Depicting themes of existentialism, philosophy, hubris, and personal and historical trauma, sci-fi has a cadre of topics and moods.

Not a knockoff

this is a cleverly written adjunct to the classic sci fi thriller. Ieajoyed the introduction of concepts which would dramatically influence the Dune Universe, and then in a natural course, to eliminate them as a possibility. I plan to follow up by rereading the Original, and I feel like I have a better grounding in the history of these characters

Awesome climatic ending!

The narrator gave a perfect performance creating a seamless continuity to all of Dune books. Loved this trilogy, and now I am going to reread Dune book 1 because this trilogy was so good.

Very good lead in to the original masterpiece

The book manages to be suspenseful in many different story threads, even for those who have read the original novels. There were even some genuine surprises and great plot twists. The audio performance was well done, too.

Detail of pre-Dune storylines and character’s developments.

The continuity of storyline and the history of this epoch’s saga, following the ‘physics of the Dune Universe’ as created by Frank Hebert back when the initial installment, the birth of this beautiful giant conglomeration of giants, Dune.

Fun and interesting to read. Not overly complicated issues and twists, such that one cannot keep up, but plenty to keep one returning to the book and assuming the position at the edge of his or her seat. For different readers different dynamics of the book and storyline will call to them. For instance the undying loyalty of a Dune-obsessed fanatic will keep them permanently fixed to the edges of their seats as they are nervous and anxious about how the histories of the saga will unfold. Conversely, a newcomer to the tale might find themselves at the edge of their seat as they read of the atrocities committed by the Harkonnen after first reading of the Great Family’s exploits.

Excellent addition to this saga, do and will continue to recommend.

Ultimate Prequel

This is the ultimate prequel to the Dune series of books. Kudos to Anderson and Brian Herbert. This ties all the storylines together to make the series one fantastic story. As for Pat, who commented that Scott Brick was getting tired of the series, I did not detect this at all. Scott is one of the best narrators in the business and is always at the top of his game. Kudos to him as well. This is an essential listen for any fan of the Dune series. Thanks to Tantor for undertaking this project.

I love the Dune Saga.

I know a lot of people don't like the nu-Dune Saga, but I've really enjoyed it. The prequel books do have a different play to them, but they are enjoyable. After listening to them and then Dune by Frank Herbert, it really comes alive.

I meant every star.

The inflections in the reader's voice Is very well done. I am already a fan of the series that this book Encapsulates. Considering the length of the book when I took a look at how many chapters I was truly impressed. Audio books are new to me as well. As I get older it's getting it more difficult to read. And I really do enjoy books.

Thoughtfully detailed.

While I gasp at way, the Fremen universe has always transported me, the reader. I find it maddening, to thirst so, for details only imagined over the fifty plus years since my first encounter. I laud these two fine writers, for further defining Frank Herbert's genius, with their wonderfully interlaced tales.
