NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

One of my favorite books by far.

Really well done, maybe one of my favorite books on here. The performance perfectly captures the story, far better than the films ever could.

Great story, odd production

The story is as intriguing as ever, and the world vividly alive, but the decision to cast multiple actors to voice the same character is odd and often distracting.

Could do with a better quality production but is listenable.

Great story

The story is fantastic, the readers are a bit dated and borderline silly in some cases. Lowering expectations on proper sounding characters will let you concede this shortcoming and allow yourself to be taken away on a great adventure.

I have to write something here. It’s asking for more words. This is dumb. Word.

Some narrations were problematic

The voice of Gurney Hallock was terrible. He sounded like an American punk. Please don’t use him again!

Mostly Awesome

The short review:
I loved parts 1 and 3, but found part 2 to be extremely long-winded and boring. That being said, the overall story is great, and really left me with a lot to think about.

The long review:
Dune is a fascinating story, dealing with many dense topics such as politics, various theological ideas, including jihadism and messiah complexes, as well as various types of philosophies. Because it can be so dense at times, I feel like I didn't quite capture everything it was trying to say, but I think I have a grasp on it for the most part, and it is certainly a unique experience. I'm excited to read it again eventually, because I feel like I will pick up on more of the nuance and subtext.
Because Herbert seems to prioritize the philosophical over the spectical, I feel that there are some parts of this story that are quite anticlimactic. Many conflicts just get resolved with little to no action or build up, which was disappointing to me if I'm honest.
Maybe it's the comic book nerd in me, but I like my finales to scratch that action itch I have, and this didn't quite do it. That being said, the ending is plenty rich in the themes of the book, and is quite exciting in its own way. It definitely got me excited for the next book, which is a job well done.
Overall, Dune is a very dense, but beautifully told Sci-Fi epic.
