NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Great Production

I’ve read the book several times and I’m glad I was able to listen to it with the performance piece embedded. Great voice actors.

No one could ask for anything more. “Space opera” indeed!

Character voices so skilled and acted out so well. Narrators pleasing, easy listen. Periodic background electronic, ambient, non-percussive music is elegant, not distracting at all, but an enhancement and perfect mood setting to the story at that point. Even better are the quite frequent, distant environmental / wind sounds totally adding to all of the voices that bring this book alive. Quiet voice-only passages are the most dominant throughout - simple, enjoyable story telling that provides the basic pleasure.
And of course, there is the classic sci-fi, mind-expanding writing of Frank Herbert! Asking for more or better is pointless, and simply misses the idea and actual experience of an excellent audiobook listen.

Amazing story, baffling production

This was a fantastic story that really hit the spot for me on my sci fi journeys. The movie was exceptional but the detail in the book was everything I hoped it would be and more.

The book itself is a 5, the performance thought was so stunningly inconsistent and poor it’s hard to believe. Audiobook performance ain’t rocket science, it’s been done well plenty. The voice acting was so inconsistent with characters having different voices sometimes detailed sometimes whatever. I don’t get it at all, wtf guys?

I love this book!

I love this book! I have read it over 20 times, and I never get tired of it. Now I get to listen to it, and I love it even more. The narrator and voice actors really bring the book to life.

Aged well

Has elements of mystique, drama and thrill. The climax felt a bit rushed compared to the overall pace of the book but it got me hooked and there was not a dull moment

Good production

My only complaint is the way the narrator said muad’dib was so annoying. Otherwise great job!

Terrible narration

I don’t like how there is little to no consistency when it can to the narrators. The character voices are played by both the main speaker and also guest speakers. The story is amazing but i was so annoyed by the constant voice change.

Unique but artful

These book can be hard to follow and get into but the performances pull you in. Frank Herbert did an incredible job using the scientific genre to explore concepts about politics, religion, and destiny that could not be properly broached in other forms. I particularly enjoy the test of whether some one is “human” being primarily about self control while the villains are a picture of humans as animals since they give themselves fully over to instincts and desires as shown by the fatness and sexual fetishes. A master piece commentary on the human condition
