NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Inconsistent listening experience

Book itself is a 10/10 masterpiece, but the voice cast is a kind of all over the place. Simon Vance does a great job with most of the story, but they bring in a larger cast of narrators for some chapters, but not others.
It feels like they had big ambitions for this, but ran out of budget. They have distinct voices for certain characters like Paul or Baron Harkonnen, but only use them in the beginning and end of the book. It's a little jarring, and your immersion is broken.
With that said, the one star reviews are overblown. Don't miss out on a great story just for a few awkward minutes out of a 21 hour listen.

Really good

People hate on the voice acting. I agree they should have either had the actors or no actors but it’s not as bad as people make it out to be. Really enjoyed.

Great narrator, great story

The ending felt a bit rushed, but to those that don't want to delve deeper, you'll find the ending is satisfying enough. I listened while at work and read while on my way home from work. I got through it pretty quickly but still, I don't think I'd read on for 24 more volumes. There just wasn't enough loose ends to pull me to continue.

But don't let my opinion stop you, it was worth the audible credit. The writing is superb, you certainly begin to feel like you are on a hot desert planet (-_- we'll get there soon enough). I loved the mysticism and the "fulfill your destiny" vibes. I give it a solid 9/10.

P.S. The narration was very atmospheric and nearly perfect.

Great Story - please redo the voices

Great story; however, multiple voice actors for the same characters made this difficult to follow at times.

good story crazy narration

odd to have different narration format seemingly at random. Sometimes Simon Vance does all the voices and sometimes Scott Brock and sometmes a cast dramatization. bizarre.

Well done!

I loved the story and narration. My only gripe is that we didn’t hear enough of the individual voices because they were so good! (Although I did enjoy the narrator as well)

Captivating From Start

Great from start to finish. The story was rich as were the voices telling it. Would encourage others to listen, they will not be disappointed.
