NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Pretty good. A few problems with narration.

A few problems with narration but it wouldn’t stop me from listening. Otherwise a solid B or B+ listen.

I loved this story, but the performance was distracting.

The story of Dune is one I’ve grown up with. I have watched the movie several times and read the book once. I bought this audiobook knowing that I would enjoy it. And I did.

The audio cast includes many talented voice actors. Each one displayed great skill in their portrayal of the characters. The narrator also did a superb job in bringing the listener on a journey.

I do have two complaints. First that this production utilized voice actors for some scenes but not all. The books narrator voices much of the book and its characters. But then in the middle of a chapter all dialogue will be taken over by voice actors. Unexpected switches between full cast and solo narrator seemed disjointed. I would have been happy with one or the other. But both mishmashed together was distracting.

My second complaint is that many voice actors played several parts. For instance Scott Brick played Duke Atrayaties, Stilgard, and one or two smaller unnamed parts. He has such a distinctive voice that it was confusing for me as a listener. After the chapter where the Duke dies, Scott shows up a chapter later as Stilgard. I thought, “Wait, isn’t he dead?”

All in all, I greatly enjoyed this audiobook. I just feel that the production could have been directed better. This is not the fault of the performers, they all did a wonderful job. I would recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys fantastic fantasy fiction.

Good story, odd presentation

The presentation was weird. At times there was a cast of voice actors and others only one. Pick a style and stick with it. It's confusing to hear the same character's voice through two different actors one chapter after another.

Bucket list book

Frank Herbert's Dune is a masterpiece. The cast for this audiobook is very impressive, my only gripe is that this version isn't divided into chapters, but large blocks, so good luck finding your place highly recommend Herbert, even to people who think they don't like sci-fi. My favorite is a lesser-known story called The White Plague, Thank you Audible, for making this version of Dune available.

Hearing an old friend.

Great to have this performance available. It’s a little dramatic but generally well done. One almost comical exception being that the Baron would go from sounding like Janes Earl Jones to a Scottish guy within the space of a minute or so. The story holds up well for its 55th birthday.
